Erin's Law Presentation
Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. We are pleased to share that Victor Pacini will be visiting our schools to deliver his program entitled, Be Seen & Heard.
On October 19th, Mr. Pacini, or one of his associates, will be here to present this information to our students during their Physical Education class.
Mr. Pacini is a survivor of sexual abuse, author and motivational speaker, and will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. He is a native to the area and has presented in front of over 750,000 students in numerous districts in Illinois and nationwide. He has been endorsed by the Illinois and National PTA organizations.
The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:
Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
Safety rules at home and school
Saying “NO”
Safe/Unsafe Secrets
It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
Telling a trusted adult
If you have any questions about the content of the program, please feel free to contact me. If you do NOT want your child to be apart of the program/presentation and would like to opt them out, please contact Ms. Hoven choven@nsd2.com or Mrs. Kohn wkohn@nsd2.com by Wednesday October 18th.

7th Grade Spotlight
Science we could eat!
7th graders in Ms. Ludwick’s & Mrs. Busa’s science classes had the opportunity to design and create their own edible cell! Each student was given a list of edible materials. In small groups, students had the task of assigning each ingredient from their list to one of the cell organelles. Based on their choices, they had to explain and provide support that proves why their ‘ingredient-organelle’ combination makes sense. To complete this successfully, students have to understand what the structure and function of cell organelles are in order to correctly represent them on their edible model. Science is fun and delicious!
Extra Curricular Update
Picture Retake
We will be having picture retakes on December 6th. If your child took their photos and received their photo packet and you would still like a retake, please have your child bring the photo packet back to school on December 6th and give it to the photographer and they will retake your child's photo.
Lost and Found
Please make sure to encourage your child to check the lost and found. We have already accumulated a good selection of items and as the weather starts getting colder, we know this collect will expand. We will keep items up until after our conferences in November. After that, we will be donating all items.
