Student Led Conferences

One my favorite things about fall is our Student Led Conferences and inviting families into our building! Our Student Led Conferences are open house style from 5pm-8pm and you do not need to sign up for a specific time slot. Please note that conferences will end at 8pm so you will want to arrive no later than 7:30pm. Students will bring their chromebooks with them to school and will report to their Advisory teacher's classroom for the conference. Students will present a slide show highlighting each of their classes, specific artifacts, self-reflection components and more! We have a few community events during Student Led Conferences this year as well that we are excited to share. Please see below for details regarding our Student Led Activities.

This informational Internet Safety & Social Media Parent Session is available to all parents (students can join, too)! A member of the St. Joseph County Police Department who specializes in internet safety and social media will provide information on trends, what to be aware of as parents, potential consequences and more. His session will begin at 6:15pm on MONDAY, OCTOBER 17th and there will be time for questions and answers following his presentation. In a day where it seems impossible to keep up with technology trends, we hope this is useful resource for parents. This will be in the cafeteria.

Our counselors will be in the IMC from 5pm-8pm sharing information about Skyward, Canvas and 21st Century Scholars. We are so lucky to have such knowledgeable and dedicated counselors. Please stop by to learn more about 21st Century Scholars, how to use or access Skyward and Canvas or simply to say hello! This will be available both evenings of Student Led Conferences.

Come join us for a few family games in the LGI from 5pm-8pm! There will be a variety of games provided such as board games and card games. This is a wonderful time to put down any distractions and be present with the family or even just with your student! There will be games that take only a few minutes and others that could last longer, if you would like. We hope to see you in the LGI before the night is over. This will be available both evenings of Student Led Conferences.

We will have a parent meeting for our 8th Grade Washington, DC trip on Wednesday, October 19th, beginning at 6pm. This meeting will be held in the cafeteria and a representative from Hemisphere, the Education Travel Company we use, will be going through the itinerary, cost and other details regarding the trip. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers as well!

PLEASE NOTE: We would love to offer a fundraising opportunity for families to help cover the cost of the trip. Our PTO has partnered with Varner's to sell Poinsettias for the holidays! We need a parent or a few parents to take the lead with this fundraiser in order for it to be possible. If we do not have anyone to lead this, we will not be able to offer the opportunity. Please reach out to our PTO (schmuckerpto@phm.k12.in.us) if you are interested or willing to help provide this opportunity for our families!

Schmucker's National Junior Honor Society will be hosting the annual student-led conference bake sale again this year. Make sure you bring extra cash to pick up a yummy treat for you, your family, a teacher, and/or friends! You can expect to see cakes, cookies, pies, candies, brownies, cupcakes, cake pops, cookie bars, mini-loaves, cobblers, muffins, breads, coffee cakes, and so much more!

There will also be the highly anticipated pre-decorated pumpkins to purchase. These pumpkins make great decorations for a front porch or dining room table!

Not interested in treats or pumpkin? You can still make a difference!

Money raised will be used to help the SMS Student Council fill Thanksgiving Baskets for Schmucker families in need this holiday season. You can make a monetary donation as well!
