AVID - Advancement via Individual Determination
Aloha High School is are accepting applications for the AVID elective class next fall. AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, and is an elective class that supports you to be ready for college after you graduate from high school.
The AVID elective class is for those of you who want to go to college and are willing to work hard, but are unsure about how to get there and need additional support from the adults and peers.
To be considered for AVID you should: have average test scores, 2.5-4.0 GPA, and exhibit college potential with support. Other selection criteria include: first in your family to attend college, historically underserved in four-year universities, economically underserved, or special circumstances.

Current College Possible Family Nights 2/28 and 3/6
College Possible is hosting a set of Family Nights on 2/28 and 3/6 from 6:30-8 PM in the Career Center.
- 2/28 will be for Junior families & 3/6 will be for Senior families.
- Spanish translation available
- Food and childcare will be provided for both events.
- Virtual events will be held on Saturday March 2th (juniors) and Saturday March 16th (seniors) at 10:45 AM-12:00 PM.

March - May Clothes for Kids Appointments
Clothes for Kids program appointments for March through May are now available. There is one appointment per family during this time frame. BSD families must log into ParentSquare to make an appointment. Please note:
- One appointment per family, not per child.
- Up to three appointments per school year per family**
Each appointment to shop for free clothes is up to 45 minutes long. To keep on schedule, it's very important to be on time for your Clothes for Kids appointment. Please show up five minutes prior to the start of your appointment time. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Please bring reusable shopping bags for your items.
In the notes section, please include the number of BSD students in your family that you will be shopping for.
Please note: Clothes for Kids has relocated to the portable on the east side of the District Support Center at 16550 SW Merlo Road. Just go straight through the gate and look for the Clothes for Kids building on the left.

We are looking for individuals interested in assisting with the various activities throughout the year. We provide support for Aloha High School in various ways, such as Senior Breakfast, Senior Grad Party, and programs that fall outside the school district budget.

Teen Support Resources
Mental Health America has compiled an abundance of resources for teens and parents of teens who are experiencing depression.
HelpGuide, a nonprofit organization, put together tips for parents to help them identify depression in their teens and help them treat it.
According to Mental Health America, anxiety disorders are among the most common mental illnesses in the U.S. This page has resources for dealing with anxiety and in depth information about the causes, symptoms, treatments and more.
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention said that educating yourself on what put kids at the greatest risk for suicide is one thing that protects them the most. They have given information on the facts and some of the risk factors and warning signs for teen suicide.

The National Helpline is available in English and Spanish for individuals and family members facing mental health or substance abuse disorders.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) put together page of resources of support for teens and young adults facing challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry listed some sources of teen stress and ways that parents can help their them to decrease stress.
