Principal Message

Dear Sequoia Families,

If you were able to attend Fall Fest last Friday you know that it was an amazing first time event! From the activities, snacks, games and the Pumpkin Fairy Godmother, it was a great afternoon all around. Thank you to SPC for sponsoring this event, the many volunteers who helped make it possible and especially Emily Klein for the idea, vision and planning, and Erin Agius for helping to execute such a fantastic, community event for our school!

As a reminder, there are several meetings happening tonight and it would be great to attend any one of them. Starting at 5:30 in our school library, superintendent, Tracy Smith, along with board members will discuss the Potential Reconfiguration of both RVCS campuses, Matanzas and Spring Creek. This will be an opportunity to discuss how this could impact Sequoia, ask questions and voice any opinions or suggestions. This will be followed by our monthly SPC meeting at 6:30pm, also in the library. It's been awhile since we've had our monthly parent club meeting, so I'd encourage you all to attend to hear what's happening new in the coming weeks and months! In addition, there is also a meeting at the district office for parents and educators on ways to support students who have specialized learning plans. The Special Education Advisory Committee meeting will be from 6:30-7:30 (1000 Yulupa Ave). Your support at any of these meetings is a great investment in our school and district community.

Lastly, I wanted to let you know about something that has been in the works for awhile and we've finally been able to make it happen...Sequoia has a podcast! Mr. Tayler and I will be doing a monthly podcast together as a way to connect with parents and to give our Sequoia community information and resources about various topics that come up at school. Our podcast is called, Giant Insights Podcast, and hopefully this will be an avenue to get a little insight into all things Sequoia Giants. In the future, we hope to have guests speakers and more! Given our recent power outages, fires and time out of school, our first couple episodes are about transitions and resilience in students and adults through difficult circumstances. Give a Gift 2019

This year, Sequoia will be partnering with the Sonoma County Medical Alliance Association Foundation (SCMAAF) to provide holiday gifts to foster children here in Sonoma County.

Who is the SCMAAF? The SCMAAF is a non-profit organization made up of physician families with a mission to “create a healthier Sonoma County by improving the lives of those in need”. For over 60 years the SCMAAF’s Give-a-Gift Program has partnered with the Sonoma County Family, Youth, and Children’s Division to provide gifts during the holiday season for children in foster care. These children have entered the Foster Care System through no fault of their own, and this separation is particularly difficult during the holidays. Our goal is to help lessen their sadness during the holiday season by providing gifts matched directly to their wishes. These gifts often provide essentials such as clothing, books, board games and school supplies.

This will be the second year that Sequoia will have a holiday tree on campus! The tree will be filled with gift tags; on the tag, you will find the child’s first name, age and gift request. Sequoia will have the holiday tree in/by the front of the office starting Wednesday, 11/13/19. Please stop by and grab a tag! We ask that you return the gift with the tag attached, unwrapped, by 11/21/19. If you have any questions feel free to contact Samantha Doemeny sfdoemeny@gmail.com.

Grateful Grams!

Student council has been selling Grateful Grams all week at recess time and will continue for one more day tomorrow! Students can buy a Grateful Gram and write a friendly message to send to a friend for $.25. Student council will deliver them next week as we head into our Thanksgiving holiday break!
