Principal's Update
Raising kids in our current technology era is hard. Apps kids use and games they play change quickly. It's tough to keep up!
Here are a few things that I've seen, that I thought might be helpful for you to know, too.
- Children often tell grown-ups that "everyone else has one"; not all children have phones or tablets in elementary school.
- Nearly all kids, particularly those in upper elementary, who chat online with friends end up in arguments or make inappropriate, mean comments. Their brains haven't yet developed to be able to predict or anticipate the way that comments will make someone feel when they can't see their face.
- When we were kids, we learned bad words from friends and older siblings or cousins. Children are learning many more explicit things online.
At school, we're working to enhance what we teach kids about the internet. For example, this week, Ms. Bush (library supervisor), taught 4th and 5th graders about what information to, and not to share, online.
These lessons alone won't do it, though. Elementary aged kids aren't mature enough to be online unsupervised. To keep kids safe, both mentally and physically, it's important that we establish habits of limit checking and monitoring with online activity early.
A great resource for how/when to set and monitor limits is Common Sense Media.
HERE are tips for dealing with cell phones.
Click HERE and check out the "Parents Need to Know" tab. You can find information on all the popular games, checking privacy, etc.
Technology adds a lot to our lives; it also creates new challenges. Working together, we can set up our children for success.

Bee Ready
Families have the opportunity to sign-up for a kit of learning materials to use at home with their child. Each kit comes with a home screener sheet to help check your child’s progress in the areas of social, cognitive, language, and physical development. After completing the home screener, families can sign up for a phone call or Zoom meeting to review and/or ask questions with a district specialist.
Pick-up of BEE Ready Kits will take place between Tuesday, March 1st- Friday, March 4th at:
Elm Dale Elementary from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm 5300 S. Honey Creek Drive (414) 281-7100 B.E.E. READY BEGINNING EDUCATION EVALUATION
*If you have a child who currently attends school in Greenfield, we can send a kit home with them between March 1st - March 4th, 2022. Please see the registration information below. To register for a BEE Ready Kit, please visit the School District of Greenfield website:

Raise $ for Our Students by Doing What You'd Normally Do
Many of you shop on Amazon. Did you know that you can earn money for Edgewood's Home and School Association while doing it? You can give more $ to your child's school by doing what you'd do anyway!
1) Go to smile.amazon.com
2) Search for your charity: Edgewood Home and School Association, Inc."
3) This only works from the desktop site, not from the app.
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students through the end of the school year. Breakfasts can be picked up in the cafeteria between 8:30 and 8:40 and brought to classrooms to eat. Menus can be found on the District Website (see picture to the right).
