MAP TESTING

Students will take the winter MAP assessment beginning next week. Each grade level will take the MAP Reading and MAP Math. The 5th graders will also take MAP Science. Please take a moment to make note of your child's testing days and times. If you know your child will be out, please let the classroom teacher know.

POPCORN DAY REMINDER

Here are the dates for the upcoming popcorn days during student lunch times.

If your child is sick or will be late to school please call the Lindsey attendance line and leave us a message. The attendance line is open 24/7 at 440-729-5981.

End of day Transportation

Due to bus route changes don't forget to let us know where your child is going at the end of the day.

The form is open 4pm to 9:30 am daily. Please note that the last pickup for the school day is 2:45pm due to parking lot congestion with cars and busses. Please try to make it before 2:45pm, we appreciate your cooperation.

If you are going to pick your student up from school at the end of the day, you will need to fill out the Elementary Transportation Form with that information. You can find the form on the Elementary webpages under the "menu" icon and parent resources. Just look for "Elementary Transportation Form," fill it out, and hit submit. Please make sure the form you are using has 22-23 school year at the top.

You will use this form for end-of-day transportation, as well as early release from the school. If you have any questions, please contact colleen.clucas@westg.org, and she can assist you.

Electronics in school

Please make sure that if your child is bringing a cell phone or electronic watch to school that it is turned off during the day. Watches can be used for time purposes only during school hours. If these rules are abused the devices will be confiscated and will need to be picked up by the parent at the school office. If students need to contact parents during the day they can come to the school office for assistance. Thank you for your cooperation.

Donations Needed!

We are in need of used clothing for the clinic. Have your children outgrown some clothing and you need a place to donate it to? The clinic will gladly take any used clean clothing to use when students need to change due to recess elements outside. We are in desperate need of pants for both boys and girls grades 3-5. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Wonderful Wonderbooks in the Library

The library has had a few Wonderbooks (audio and print book combined) returned damaged. Water and books don't make a good combination, especially water and Wonderbooks. The pages get warped and the audio system breaks. These books are roughly $60. Mrs. Murry will let students know upon check out that they should be extra careful with the special books, and will be responsible for any damages. Thanks for helping to keep these books stocked in our library.

Are you interested in becoming a substitute teacher and/or substitute proctor?

We are in need of substitute teachers and substitute proctors. The Ohio Department of Education has temporarily relaxed requirements for a substitute teaching permit. All that is required for a short-term substitute permit is a high school diploma and a clear background check. This relaxation allows many who were not qualified to substitute to do so now during the substitute teacher shortage.

If you, or anyone you would recommend, is interested in substitute teaching in West Geauga Schools, please contact Lisa Porter at 729-6818 for information. The district is willing to pay for the fingerprint background check required to obtain the permit. We will also accommodate your wishes with regard to building assignments so that you will be comfortable with the age level of the students for whom you will be responsible.

Dress for the weather

The seasons are changing. One day it's cold then hot, then raining and even snow is around the corner. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately. Everything students bring to school should be marked with their first and last name in case they get misplaced so we can return them to their owner. We appreciate your help with this. Students go outside when it's cold, so warm clothes are essential. If your child needs snow pants, boots, a hat, and/or gloves, please let the office now. We have extras on hand we can loan out for the season to stay at school.

School Dress Code:

As the weather is changing we would like to remind you of dress codes standards at the elementary schools. The primary responsibility for school dress and grooming rests with the parents of our students. Clothing should be in good repair, neat, clean and free of large (and multiple) holes.

Footwear that damages school floors may not be worn. Shoes must be closed-toe, fit securely on feet, and protect feet during recess activities. High heels are not appropriate in the elementary setting.

Hats, caps, hoods or head covers of any kind are not to be worn in the building unless it is part of a classroom or school-sponsored event.

Shorts are allowed but must be appropriate and in good taste. Teacher and/or administrative discretion shall determine whether shorts are appropriate

Bare midriffs, tank tops, muscle shirts and transparent shirts, and spaghetti-strap tops are not permitted. Undergarments should not be visible. Revealing clothing is prohibited.

School Fees:

You can pay by check made payable to West Geauga Local Schools and send in to the office, or you can also pay online in Infinite Campus if that is more convenient for you.

Also, if you need the application for free and reduced lunches it can be found on Infinite Campus. Families who qualify also have reduced or no school fees.
