Thank you to all of the families who attended Literacy Night! The turnout was awesome and the engagement was inspiring.

I would also like to thank all of the families who have supported "Socktober". We have collected over 800 pairs of brand new socks, as part of our school-wide community service initiative. We still have until October 28, 2022, to reach our goal of 1,000 brand new pairs of socks. I believe we can do it!

If you attended Literacy Night, thank you! We would love to hear feedback directly from you. Any shout outs you provide will be shared directly with the teachers and staff who worked hard to put on the event. Additionally, any ideas for improvement will be used to inform future events and are appreciated as well.

Please see the following letter from DCPS regarding a student survey administered twice a year for students in grades 3-5. If you do NOT want your child to take the Panorama Student Survey this fall, fill out this DCPS form by October 21, 2022: Fall 2022 Panorama Student Opt-Out. To fill out the form, you need your child’s student ID.

Only the DCPS central office team has access to the survey responses, so it would also be helpful if you could email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov if you intend to opt-out from the survey.

All students who are present at school and have a SIGNED media release form on file will have their school portrait taken by Freed Photography during school hours on Wednesday, October 26. Afterwards, information about how to view and order your child's photo (optional) will be made available.

On October 31, children are invited to wear costumes to school, should your family choose to participate. Costumes may NOT promote violence in any way, including any type of weapon or blood. Students may be asked to remove elements of a costume that make learning challenging (ie. sunglasses indoors or wings that make it hard to sit).

Please note that costume props are often left behind at school or become damaged throughout the day, so it is highly recommended that they are left at home. Costumes of great personal significance are also best reserved for out-of-school activities.

Families who wish to join in the fun can cheer on their child in the Halloween parade by lining up anywhere along the parade route at the times listed below. Students will enjoy a quick fall treat on the playground afterwards before heading back inside to continue the important work of learning!

Every Friday, in the month of October, to symbolize

our commitment to kindness, as a school community we will wear blue. Blue represents peace and unity and are also Hyde-Addison's school colors!

Hyde-Addison is doing a schoolwide community service project with the aim of providing 1,000 pairs of brand new socks (adults or children) to individuals in need this winter. Bring them to school beginning October 3 and help us meet our goal by October 28! You just never know what celebration might be in store if we reach 1,000.

Parents/Guardians must be at the main entrance of the school building before 2:55pm to pick up students for early dismissal.

If you would like a Kids Ride Free Card for your student, please fill out this short form. They will be sent home in students' backpacks on Mondays.

Thank you all so much for your generosity towards Hyde-Addison and taking care of that match opportunity many times over! The Great Envelope Race stands at 67% ($26,669) of our financial goal ($40,000) and 16% participation with 12 days to go! School mental health services and supports are an effective means of addressing the mental health needs of children and improving the learning environment. Click here if you would like to refer a student for mental health or counseling support provided by Ms. Stovall. Referrals will be processed by the Mental Health Team and staff will receive communication and updates regarding services.
