The James Burd Family will work together to create a welcoming, inspiring, and engaging environment, where all learners take pride in reaching their full potential.
Message from Mr. Flohr
Happy Fall! There are many things that I like about the season like the cooler weather, changing leaves, and hot chocolate. Another thing I like about fall are all of the opportunities for families to do different activities together such as festivals and corn mazes. Fall is a wonderful opportunity for families to create more memories together.
In this edition, you will see upcoming dates, a reminder free breakfast starting, and some information about the upcoming parade at the end of the month.
I wanted to briefly provide information about a couple of items. In the Elementary Handbook, the final page is for you to complete. If you want your child's picture not to be used on social media, please complete and return this page ASAP. Also, we are starting to allow parents to eat lunch with their child once a month. This will take place on the first Friday of the month. We do not allow outside food or drink to come in for lunch. I need to be informed at the start of the week of your intent to join us on that first Friday. We need to ensure that we are not having more guests than our cafeteria can hold. Also, we will be bringing back our fall parade at the end of the month. More information will be coming out about this closer to that time.
Finally, if you're a fan of the Hershey Bears, there is an opportunity for you to obtain a free ticket for selected events. Thanks to Penn State PRO Wellness and Mrs. Meredith for making this opportunity possible!
Yours in learning,
Mr. Flohr

In Case You Missed It...
Volunteer Information
The School Board approved updates to our volunteer policy. All of this information is located in our school website. To summarize, volunteers must complete an application that will place them into one of two categories:
- Position Volunteer: This volunteer would be directly responsible for the welfare of our students. Examples of this type of position would include chaperones and tutors. If a parent is applying for this type of volunteer, they must have clearances, TB test, etc prior to being approved by the School Board. It is imperative that you begin the process of this application as soon as possible to ensure that you are on a School Board agenda prior to the event that you wish to participate in.
- Guest Volunteer: This volunteer would be working directly under the supervision and direction of a member of the school staff. An example of this type of volunteer could include parent volunteers. If a parent is applying for this type of volunteer, they do not need clearances or TB test, but they would need approval from the building principal or designee.
If you're interested in being a volunteer, please complete the application below. We will have paper copies of these available in the office area as well as Open House.

Student Drop Off and Pickup Procedures for the year
Please note that families cannot park along the street and walk up to the school to pickup their child at the end of the day unless their is a prior arrangement. We can allow additional individuals in the drop off or pickup loop that could potentially impact the safety of our students. Our parking lot will be utilized for district vehicles only during that time.
