Mustang Minute
Friday, October 14th
From the Principals' Offices
It was another great week at Brookwood as we continued to celebrate safety month! This week's focus was Fire Safety, and students in both buildings enjoyed presentations from the Bloomfield & Genoa City Fire and Rescue squad! This year's slogan from NFPA is "Fire won't wait, plan your escape." Students learned all about fire growth, the importance of changing the batteries in smoke and CO detectors, and how to make a home safety plan. All students came away with grab bags containing brochures, escape plan books, stickers, pencils and more! They even got to check out an ambulance, a fire engine, and some specialized equipment that firefighters use. HUGE thanks to Bloomfield & Genoa City Fire and Rescue for taking time out of their busy schedules to help our students and families Be Safe!
Parent Teacher Conferences Appointment times have been sent home with all students at BES and BMS who previously indicated that they would like to have a conference. In the event that your scheduled time does not work for you, please call your student's school office.
Lastly, don't forget that Wednesday, October 19th is Unity Day! We are asking everyone to wear orange to send one large message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Have a fantastic weekend, Mustangs!

Academic Lab at BMS
Students will begin their study time with one of their teachers, right after school in that teacher’s classroom.
At 3:20pm, students will then report to the Academic Lab in the library. A team of Academic Lab teachers will continue to help students in working on the tasks of focus, as assigned by their teacher.
Academic Lab teachers will also assist students with putting any unfinished assignments needing to be completed into their assignment notebooks, so that families are in the loop of tasks that still need attention at home.
Academic Lab will end at 4:25pm. Students will not be allowed to leave early unless a parent needs to pick them up sooner.
The Late Bus will continue to be offered as afternoon transportation home from the Academic Lab, and will depart promptly at 4:30pm. (Note: The Late Bus will also still be available on Tuesdays for students in athletics).
Families: We need your help in giving our students the attention they need and deserve. We hope that you will take full advantage of this resource when your student is in need of additional support.
The Golden Horseshoe Moves On!!!
The Golden Horseshoe moves on again...this time to our new School Counselor, Mrs. Ibrahim! "Ms. I" is new to BMS this year, but has already gone above and beyond in supporting our students. She has been instrumental in spearheading plans for Bullying Prevention Week, and pushes her students to think through a lens of empathy. Just last week she held an optional lunch in her classroom for our 8th Grade students to encourage getting to know and understand peers outside of your immediate social group. She also understands that all kids are different and some require a little extra support to thrive in school. We are so fortunate to have had her join our Mustang ranks!
Fall Fest
Brookwood Elementary School: BE BROOKWOOD!!!
Students observed going above and beyond in being kind, being safe, and/or being responsible are issued “BE BROOKWOOD” tickets throughout their school week. Each week we randomly select students from this group and acknowledge them in our morning announcements and in the weekly MUSTANG MINUTE. Help us congratulate the students that were drawn:

FROM THE CLASSROOM...
What's Happening in Mrs. Brill's 7th Grade Math Class?
What's Happening in Mrs. Krueger and Mrs. Hughes 4k Class?
Students in 4K have been enjoying working on balance, coordination, and motor planning skills while completing thematic obstacle courses. Our favorite part of this Fire Prevention themed course was practicing stop, drop, and roll!
Reading Roundup!
Let’s help our Brookwood students find a love for reading. Check out these GREAT free resources that you can explore with them at home!
Remember to send a picture of you reading outside to Mrs. Arshem by Monday, October 31st, and you might be featured in the Mustang Minute. (stephanie.arshem@gcj2.k12.wi.us)
From the Athletic Director...
Our girls’ basketball team kicked off the season with our first games this week. Tuesday our B team was victorious over Randall with an exciting 32-18 win at home! Thursday’s games at Salem were challenging, but the girls played hard through the end despite their loss. Our next game is Tuesday, October 18th at Lakewood.
