Updates from the principal's office

Greetings Sward Families:

Wow! Our Penny Wars were a huge success! Together, Sward School raised $2,433.37! Such incredible teamwork for such a meaningful cause. A portion of this money will go toward Childhood Cancer research while the other portion will be used to purchase toys for Hope Hospital's patients.

As we wear gold/yellow today, we honor a very special second grade Eagle. We would like to introduce you to AJ who has bravely battled cancer and won. Please click HERE to learn more about AJ. He is an inspiration to us, both during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and everyday.

We thank you for your generosity as we work to bring an end to childhood cancer.

PTA Culver's Night

Come for a meal at Culver’s and help raise money for our Sward PTA!

Where: Culver’s at 107th and Cicero
When: Wednesday, September 29th 5-8 pm
Dine in or Drive-thru.

Just mention “Sward School” to the cashier and Culver’s will automatically donate 15% of your purchase to our PTA!

The funds raised will go towards our school events this year including: the pumpkin contest, the book fair, 5th grade end of year event, teacher appreciation week, and many more activities for our students!

Cell Phones

Many times, parents request permission for their child to bring a cell phone to school. We ask that you complete a Cellular Phone Permission Request and send it to school with your child so that we have it on file. Students with permission to possess a cell phone at school should have the device turned off and stored in their book bag during normal school hours. If you need a permission form, your child can pick one up from the main office and bring it home with them. Thank you.

Chromebook Insurance

The deadline for the purchase of Chromebook Insurance is quickly approaching. Families have until September 30, 2021 to register for Chromebook insurance at the cost of $25.00 per child. Repairs to the Chromebooks can be quite costly and the insurance will definitely help to keep the cost down. This can be completed through Skyward Family Access. If you have any questions, please call the Sward main office at (708)423-7820.

Lunch Status

This year, all of our D123 students have the ability to receive a breakfast and a lunch at no charge, regardless of whether or not they qualify for free or reduced lunch. However, the lunch status may have an effect on your registration fees. Last year's lunch status will expire on October 4. Quarantine Homework Help

...just another friendly reminder that we have after school virtual homework help for the students who are currently in the quarantine protocol. If you would like your child to partake in this, please email ckramer@d123.org and ask for a link to that afternoon's Google Meet. The links change daily and the homework help is from 3:30-4:30.

D123 Spooktacular

Last year was lots of fun, so this year will be the 2nd annual Spooktacular celebration. Please click HERE for an informational flyer. This will be held on Saturday, October 23 at OLHMS. If your child is absent

If your child will be absent:

Please call the Sward main office to report an absence (708)423-7820. There will be questions that must be asked during this time of pandemic protocol.
Keep in close contact via email with your child's teacher. They will be able to inform you of the work your child will miss during the absence. They might provide links for your child to access on their device, a packet to pick up in the office, or a mix of both.
Many days, there will be virtual homework help opportunity for the absent children from 3:30-4:30. Please email ckramer@d123.org for additional information or a meeting link.

Note from the Nurse

Physicals need to be turned into the Health Office by October 15th. Physicals are needed for Preschool, Kindergarten and new transfer students. A vision exam and a dental exam are also required for Kindergarten. Please remember to fill out the health history portion of the physical form. If forms are not in by 10/15 students will be excluded from school starting 10/16 until forms are received. If you have any questions please contact the Health Office.

SHIELD Program

Tomorrow we will begin COVID-19 SHIELD testing at SWARD. This will only be for those that have already completed the OPT-IN form and signed their student up in Skyward Family Access.

The SHIELD Illinois program is a quick, simple, and non-invasive COVID-19 screening test. Students that have opted-in to the program will provide a small amount of saliva that is tested at a professional lab. Results of the test are then provided to families and our school district within the days following. The program offers students the opportunity to reduce or waive quarantine requirements in the event of close contact with a positive case or if the student demonstrates symptoms. You can opt-in to the program at any time by accessing Online Forms in Skyward Family Access.
