OCT 6th-News Release: Protecting students and staff in the fourth wave
Public reporting of COVID-19 cases in schools will resume on Oct. 6, with Alberta Health identifying online each school with at least two COVID-19 cases. Starting Oct. 12, parents will also be informed if their child may have been exposed to a COVID-19 case who was infectious while at school. At this time, school authorities will support an interim process for contact notification using data supplied daily by Alberta Health Services. An updated guidance document will be provided directly to school authorities to support them through this process.
Alberta Health Services will take over the lead on contact notification in schools within the next several weeks. Once AHS-led contact notification is in place, parents will be able to check an online map to view alerts and outbreaks at schools.
Alberta’s government will be offering a targeted rapid testing program for kindergarten to Grade 6 schools experiencing outbreaks, as vaccines are not yet available to this age group.
Alberta’s government is strongly encouraging all school authorities to develop policies that require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test for teachers, staff and anyone who enters a school. This does not apply to students. A school authority cannot deny students access to education due to immunization status.
Has your child been a household contact of a case2 of COVID-19 in the last 14 days? A household contact: a person who lives in the same residence as the case OR who has been in frequent, long-duration, close-range interaction with a case of COVID-19. For example, siblings, someone who slept over, or someone who provided direct physical care to the child.
If the answer is “YES” AND they are NOT fully immunized
: Child should stay home and NOT attend school, childcare and/or other activities for 14 days from the last day of exposure and monitor for symptoms. If your child has symptoms, proceed to question 2.
Driver’s Education Program for credit has changed
Alberta Education has approved more external training courses for credit.
For Driver’s Training (1 credit), students must submit a Notice of Driver Education Course Completion for completing 15 hours of classroom instruction + 10 hours of in-vehicle instruction and passing the knowledge and practical assessments.
OLMP Students can still receive a discount should they choose to complete their Driver’s Training through AMA. Please see Mrs. Reinhart for more details.

EICS-Extra-curricular Activities
The following information has been passed on to our Athletic Director and all coaches at OLMP:
EICS is supportive of a safe return to extra-curricular activities. The hope is that current restrictions can be diminished throughout the year as the threat of COVID reduces in society and our schools.
All guidelines regarding masking are to be adhered to. Masks must be worn in all school areas including the change room / locker rooms.
Masks may be removed during warm up and while participating in the game.
Masks must also be worn by the coach and players on the bench.
At this time, NO SPECTATORS are allowed in the schools/gymnasium.
Outdoor events will allow spectators; it is highly encouraged that spectators wear masks and adhere to social distancing protocols.
During outdoor events, modeling of mask use by coaches is strongly recommended.
Parents are not allowed in the school for planning meetings, these meetings are to occur virtually.
Masks must be worn when being transported to the event.
No Student Pick Up or Drop Off in Alleys
NO PICK-UP/DROP-OFF FROM STAFF PARKING LOT OR BUS LANE
Dear Parents,
Please make alternate plans for pick-up/drop-off location as our Staff parking lot is no longer available as an option. This area has become far too congested in the past and is an extreme OH&S concern. REMINDER:Please follow the flow of traffic in the Student parking lot on the South side of our building. Alternatively, please also look at streets/locations (other than alleys) that are close to our school where students can safely access our school site. While we understand that this takes away some convenience, we are more concerned about the safety of your children.
PLEASE GIVE OUR BUSES THE RIGHT OF WAY AT DROP-OFF AND DEPARTURE
****PLEASE STAY CLEAR FROM BUS LANES AT THE BEGINNING OF OUR DAY AND AT THE END OF OUR DAY*****
Thank you for you attention to this.
