Mountain View Weekly Update
September 3
Announcements & Updates
- A reminder that school is closed Monday in observance of Labor Day and Tuesday in observance of Rosh Hashanah. School reopens on Wednesday, September 8.
- The Mendham Borough School District transitioned from Honeywell Instant Alert System to the Apptegy Alert System as our main notification tool for school closings, early dismissals, and delayed openings due to inclement weather, emergency urgent matters and school or district function notices. We understand that our first call went out yesterday with a caller ID of "Unknown - Little Rock, AR" and a short 5-digit code for text messages. We have worked with Apptegy to ensure all future calls will display “Mt. View School 973-543-2295” as they had in the past with Honeywell. Text messages will still have the short 5-digit code but will have an introductory message of “MBSD Alert :” followed by the district message. These changes will be reflected in our next alert notification. The Apptegy Alert System is directly linked to Genesis and will use the contact information for the home number, cell number, and email of Guardian 1 and Guardian 2 within the system to send alerts via phone, email, and text messaging. Maintaining the accuracy of your profile will increase the ability of the school to keep you informed. Parents designated as Guardian 1 in Genesis have the ability to update phone numbers only. Should there be a need to update an email address, parents must contact the main office to process that change as that information is directly linked to student accounts. If you have any issues in receiving the notifications please contact Mrs. Liz Juliano at juliano@mendhamboroschools.org.
- For your information, when school is closed for inclement weather or other unplanned reasons, the Related Arts "day" rotation continues as scheduled; the days are not made up. For example, Thursday, September 2 was a day 3. When students return on September 8, it will be a day 4.
- Mountain View Middle School is pleased to offer a variety of extracurricular clubs and activities. Please see the attached presentation below for an overview of our offerings. More information, including how to sign-up, will be shared with your child via morning announcements and Mrs. Toth's Google Classroom page. Also, stay tuned for additional HSA Enrichment opportunities, which will be communicated separately.
- Reminder: The HSA Coupon Book Fundraiser is underway through Friday, September 10. Coupon books were sent home on Monday, August 30. Each family received one book, with the option of offering more to family and friends with a designated link. Many thanks in advance for supporting our first fundraiser of the year and the HSA!

A note from Ms. Walsh
September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and the first full week of September is National Suicide Prevention Week. Both Suicide Prevention Month and Suicide Prevention Week are a time to spark conversations about mental health, share resources and stories, and promote healing, hope, and growth. The past year and a half of the Covid-19 pandemic has led to an increase in childhood anxiety, stress, and an overall decrease in children's mental and emotional health. As a result of these changes, it could be beneficial to have conversations with your children about how they’re feeling and in doing so listen for any noticeable changes in their affect or troubling answers to any questions. Below is a list of conversation starters you can use with your children, family, and even friends to check in and see how they are doing:
-What is something that you are looking forward to? What about it makes you excited?
-How do you feel about the future? Do you have anything you want to accomplish?
-Who is someone that makes you feel important? What is something that they do that makes you feel this way?
-Tell me about a time recently where you struggled, how did you overcome this?
-Tell me about a great day you had recently; what parts made you feel happy?
-Is there anything that is making you nervous? How can I help?
