DWS Family Calendar

This week, Mrs. Perry-Gore was recognized as Marshfield's Educator of the Week! Mrs. Perry Gore is a valuable member of the DWS staff. She works within our third-grade classrooms and develops strong, supportive relationships with all of the students she works with. She is caring and goes out of her way to help out whenever she can, whether that be to tell a joke to make a student smile when something is bothering them or to pull a student to the side and give them a few extra practice problems when she notices they didn't understand something. Not only does she connect with our students, but our teachers as well! She is an essential part of our third-grade team!

Are you interested in hosting a country table? We encourage you to share your ancestral ties. We all smile in the same language. Help us greet you with your traditional hello. The country hosts are encouraged to get creative and present a cultural experience, including playing a game, making paper lanterns, clothing displays, photo displays, face painting, musical instrument demonstrations, or a tasty treat.

Let us know you’re coming, and sign up below! If you wish to share a special dance or talent, please note this during signup so we can allot time to showcase your gift.

DWS staff members can award any student with a DWS ALL STAR when they see students being Dedicated, Welcoming, or Safe. All of the DWS ALL STAR awards are put on display in the front lobby. The following students were featured in the morning announcements last week for being DWS ALL-STARS!

Grade K: Mila in Ms. Hastry’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she showed great whole body listening.

Grade K: Gabriela in Ms. Hastry’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she showed great whole body listening.

Grade 1: Ava in Mrs. Redman’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she was a superstar during Number Corner.

Grade 1: Ellery in Mrs. MacDonald’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she was an expert participant during phonics.

Grade 2: Kaik in Mrs. Auriemma’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he did a great job on the ACCESS test.

Grade 2: Agatha in Mrs. Auriemma’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she was a dedicated reader during indoor recess.

Grade 3: Kaylea in Mrs. Hines’ class is a DWS ALL STAR because she helped clean up the games!

Grade 3: Gemma in Mrs. Hines’ class is a DWS ALL STAR because she practiced her fluency at home and improved her reading.

Grade 4: Davi in Mrs. Robatzek’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he has been working hard to read more fluently.

Grade 4: Rishit in Mrs. Robatzek’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he completed research on his own time.

Grade 5: Nora L. in Mrs. Drew’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she got right to work in the morning.

Grade 5: Faith in Ms. LaForest’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she worked hard on her iReady diagnostic.

Today Superintendent Granatino surprised our DWS students during lunch and helped out our cafeteria staff in the kitchen! Our superior lunch staff put him right to work - decorating the desserts and serving nachos! He even took special orders!

February 16th 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Marshfield Elks Lodge. $20/individual and $200/table up to 10 people. All proceeds go to DWS PTO.

The DWS PTO

The Marshfield Education Foundation is always looking for new members to join our organization. The MEF is currently seeking a new Treasurer to begin the 2024/25 school year. We would ideally like to have this role filled before our current Treasurer ends their term at the end of the 2023/24 school year. If you are interested, please send an email to info@marshfieldfoundation.org. Following is a brief description of the role:

- About the Treasurer role: Shall maintain accurate accounts of all monies of the MEF received or disbursed. The Treasurer shall carry out all MEF financial transactions at banks and depositories designated by the Board of Directors. The Treasurer shall have the authority to endorse all drafts received by the MEF, and render as required, an account of all transactions and of the financial condition of the MEF. The Treasurer will cause to prepare any financial statements required including tax forms. The Treasurer shall perform all duties incident to the office of Treasurer. The books and accounts of the Treasurer shall at all times be open to the inspection of the Directors and Officers of MEF and of any authorized auditor.

Cold and flu ( and every other illness) season is upon us! Here are a few helpful reminders to help this season:

• The best defense against illness is good handwashing, adequate hydration and regular sleep. Encourage your kiddos to stay hydrated and rest to help prevent illness and when they are unwell to shorten the duration of the illness.

• Please remember that if your child has been out sick they can return to school once they have been without fever, vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of medications and their overall symptoms have improved.

• Please remember that attendance is closely monitored. If your child will be absent we have a Safe to School Protocol. Please notify the school and the nurse the morning that your child will not be in school. If your child has an illness or injury that results in an absence for 5 or more days- a doctor’s note must be sent in upon returning to class with any restrictions and appropriate dates.

• Please be sure students dress in layers for school- they need winter gear for outdoor play, but inside the building can be very warm. If students do not have appropriate warm weather/snow gear their outside activities may be somewhat limited so they stay warm and safe.

All student meals will continue to be free for the 2023-2024 school year. One breakfast and one lunch are FREE for all students.

The Boys & Girls Club Programs provide a wholesome environment that promotes social/emotional, physical and character development in addition to supporting the educational efforts of both the parent and school. We encourage children to balance learning and fun through homework help, physical activity and arts & crafts. Our focus areas give your child limitless opportunities to reach their full potential.

BEFORE SCHOOL CARE

Hours: 7am until school day starts

As a reminder, please adhere to the DWS Dismissal Protocols if you choose to pick up your child from school (listed below). Dismissal time can be very busy and we understand that we are the late school and families are often rushing off to afterschool activities. It has been reported that some cars are pulling in and doing a U-Turn in the driveway to cut the line. Please follow the protocol and the flow of traffic pictured below so we don't compromise the safety of our children. Thank you!

Dismissal

• DWS hours are 8:50am-3:30pm. Students will begin car line dismissal at 3:25 pm.

• If you arrive before 3:25, please remain in your vehicle.

• Please do not park your vehicle in the live line.

• In the car line, students will be dismissed in order of car line up through the gym doors.

• Please follow staff directions and pull all the way up to the marked location (red circle).

• Please wait for the car in front of you to pull forward. Do not attempt to pass vehicles.

Please review the most up-to-date arrival and dismissal protocol. We have made some changes to the existing policy in order to keep students, drivers, and staff safe.

As part of our Positive Behavior and Incentives Plan, our DWS Kids are taught how to be Dedicated, Welcoming, and Safe in all areas of our building and throughout their day. These posters are reviewed on the morning announcements, by classroom teachers, and are hung around the school for visual reminders. Students are then recognized for following these expectations and given All-Stars!
