Haw River Hype

Lion Cub families, we hope you all had a great week back. Our students have been busy strengthening their skills, engaging in new learning, and celebrating successes. They have also been busy earning House Points and Cub Currency by making good choices, demonstrating leadership, and achieving their goals. We are incredibly proud of our Lion Cub Leaders!

This week our students will begin taking their i-Ready Diagnostic in reading and math to show us what they have learned this year. We have asked our students to set goals to show how much they have grown. Please talk with your students about their goals and ask them how they feel about their progress. Students will earn growth points contributing to our school Data Super Bowl to see which House can grow the most this year! Students can also earn House Points and Cub Currency for their growth, so they must focus and do their best!

• Monday 12/5- Wear Your Favorite Holiday Character
• Tuesday 12/6- Candy Cane Day: Wear Red and White
• Wednesday 12/7- Grinch Day: Wear Grinch attire or Green
• Thursday 12/8- Honor Hanukkah: Wear Blue or White
• Friday 12/9- Wear your favorite Holiday or Winter Sweater/Shirt
• Families may come to each lunch with your students. Please reach out to your child's teacher to let them know you are coming so they can plan for seating. Remember: NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK MAY BE BROUGHT IN. Upon arrival, please sign in at the front office and get a visitor's tag.

During this season of giving, there is no greater gift you can give than your own time. Volunteering your time at our school would be a great gift! We are currently looking for volunteers to help with our duty-free lunch. To volunteer, please complete the background check linked here and then sign-up to volunteer in the sign-up genius linked here.

All volunteers must have a background check on file before they can volunteer.

One of the principles of this habit is to say no to things we know we should not do. For example, if your child is invited to play with a friend and they have not completed their homework, they should be reminded that to put first things first means to work first and then play. This teaches children how to prioritize and delay gratification, a skill that we need to have as an adult.

Please talk with your child about how they can put first things first at home and school.

In first place is Empatia with 3040 points. The points leader for this school year is Deysi B., in 4th grade. The points leaders for last week were Alexis H., in 2nd grade, and Isaiah C., in 2nd grade. The points leader for the second nine weeks is Alexis H., in 2nd grade.
