News from the Nest
Issue #9: October 20th, 2023
Hello Elm Street School Families and Friends,
Things are really starting to heat up here at the Nest while the weather outside is cooling down! We have had a busy week filled with student and adult learning and engagement and planning for all of the fall fun connected to this time of year.
During our Grade Level Team Meeting time this week our educators connected with our Math Coach and dug into using data to inform instruction and plan for differentiation to meet the diverse learning profiles present in each of our classrooms. During Curriculum Meeting time on Monday, some teams continued to work with the myriad of data they have to analyze to plan for short term intervention cycles and supports for students who are not yet meeting grade level benchmarks and expectations, while other members of our team met with colleagues from across the district for department meetings. Our focus this fall is to continue to build our skills and proficiency with analyzing data and utilizing this information to tailor instruction that meets the needs of all students and promotes growth and achievement.
In this week's News from the Nest you will find information about:
- School Health Services Update: including yearly screening information
- Essentialists Weekly Newsletter:
- Family/Educator Conference Sign Ups
- Halloween at Elm Street School
- Diwali Celebration
- PAC Updates and Events
As the weather shifts and we have this short stretch of cool mornings and warmer days, we are noticing a lot of left behind sweatshirts and jackets. Please remind your child(ren) to check our Lost and Find for missing items.
Looking forward to another week of joy and connection!

Halloween at Elm Street School
Please read the following expectations:
Our parade will take place at the start of the day.
Students can wear costumes to school. They will not be allowed to call home if anything is missing.
Students may wear black and orange and participate in the parade if they do not want to wear a costume.
Halloween masks and any type of inflatable costume are not allowed, given safety concerns.
We ask that you refrain from applying make up and face paint as it can not be removed when it is time for costumes to be removed.
No weapons (real or toy) are ever allowed in school. This includes “parts of costumes” such as a fire fighter’s axe, a cowboy’s guns, Robin Hood’s bow & arrow, etc. If you have a question about it, it's best to leave the item at home. Any items that violates this guideline will be stored in the main office and an adult caregiver will need to pick it up at the end of the school day.
Students will change out of their costumes after the parade and should bring in a bag for their costume- please label with your child’s name to minimize mix-ups.
School staff are not responsible to monitor that all costume pieces are returned home that day or for the condition they are returned in. (i.e. spills, rips, etc.)
Please note: to minimize disruptions, and for safety concerns, no visitors or volunteers will be allowed in the building until all students are back in their classrooms.
