1-day workshop Experimental silk painting 19 or 20 July
3-day workshop - 19-21 July - Experimental silk painting (can be combined with felting)
Experimental silk painting and felting
Discover the creativity within you and learn about the surprising and advantaged technique of art silk painting. In 1, 2 or 3 days you will get to know step-by-step the possibilities of silk painting with Ellen Bakker. The longer you stay, the deeper the knowledge.
possibilities
The workshops leaves a lot of room for experimenting, so you will be free to work on several samples of silk fabrics, or you can focus on creating specific final products, like a smooth silk scarf or fabric for clothing and interior (optionally felted with wool for a bodywrap, wallhanging, grand foulard, etc).
program
During the workshops you will learn what the effects are of working with transparent layers, how to allow the paint to flow, but also how to stop it. You will be introduced to working with brushes, stencils, stamps and other tools.
But most of all, you will learn to intuitively fill a white silk sheet with colour and shape.
Each student has a large frame for stretching the silk. The amount of scarves, fabrics or samples you paint during these 1, 2 or 3 days depends on your experience and how detailed you paint. There is the possibility to felt one painted piece with needle felt on the last day (as far as time permits). This combination of silk painting and felting with wool is more extensive during the 3-day course.
Steaming of the silk is included in the workshop. The fabrics painted on the first day will be steamed in the evening. The materials that are painted on the second day can be sent by mail at current postage.
