Education Through Music PL Opportunity
Fresno 2018-19 Winter ETM Course info

Grace Wamhoff
Dear Friends and colleagues,
We want to make you aware of a professional development opportunity that is available to all teachers, administrators, and other people who work with children ages 0-15.
Education Through Music (ETM) teaches through song and play. It is not just a music program, but was originally intended as a literacy program that promotes the study of sound and the acquisition of language and music literacy. It takes a deep look at the child's brain and how they learn, and how music can be used to stabilize children and teach social skills while simultaneously teaching core subjects. We have been studying the past few years with several other music teachers, classroom teachers, SPED teachers, as well as others. Master teachers from all over the U.S. lead the classes to help us collaborate with each other and learn best teaching practices to reach students. It has revolutionized the way we approach teaching children, improved our classroom management, and helped provide a better experience for our students.
We are lucky enough to have a course here in Fresno that is starting on Thursday, October 11th . The course is split into three 3-day sessions (Thur/Fri evening & Sat morning) throughout the school year, and you do not have to miss any class time to attend. College course credit is also offered through CSU Bakersfield (at an additional cost). Please note that the registration rates go up after October 1st! To register online, please go to: https://new.richardsinstitute.org/courses/winter/2018/
Fresno Unified supports our efforts to attend the course by paying $200 towards the course cost for the first 20 people who sign up. That means you would only pay $140 instead of $340! This rate is only available if you sign up by October 1st. We still have a few slots available, but they fill up fast! Please mail in your registration with $140 and email grace.wamhoff@fresnounified.org by October 1st if you are planning to register using Fresno Unified funds.
If you are intrigued, but not ready to commit to the whole course, you are welcome to check out a session absolutely FREE. Come check it out, I promise you won’t regret it! Our first class will be on Thursday, October 11th from 5:00-8:00pm at Baird Middle School in room T1. Plan to park on College Ave on the east side of Baird and look for the ETM signs!
IF you’ve never heard of Education through Music before, here is a video put out by George Dozet (one of the Richard’s Institute teachers):

If you have any questions, please feel free to email one of us. We hope you are able to study with us this year!
Thanks,
