Words From Ms. Mills
Ski Runners Registration is open!
We encourage students in grades 1-4 to register for Ski Runners. We hope that many families will take advantage of this opportunity to learn to ski at Saskadena Six in January-March. An information letter can be found here. A bus takes students from WES to the ski area. Registration opened November 1st and scholarships are available and you just check a box to apply. This year Ski Runners will be for WCSU schools only in order to reduce numbers of children at S6 on Fridays. So far, about 60 students have registered. There is still time to sign up at the link above.
Art Runners is open, too!
Here is the link for grades 1-4 students to sign up for an Artistree Programs for those interested in alternative art exploration during the ski runners program time. A bus takes students from WES to Artistree at this time. According to the site, "Students will embark on a journey of imagination and discovery while exploring visual art. Art is a natural discipline that helps children grow through experience and find joyful, positive, and varied ways to express themselves with confidence. Each week, students will enjoy different projects, exploring different artistic media with Artistree Staff."

LOST AND FOUND!
During this shoulder season where temperatures vary throughout the day, students tend to shed lots of coats, etc at recess. Please have your child check the lost and found! It is located outside the gym in the hallway and a photo is below in case you see something your child should reclaim. Those items not claimed by Thanksgiving break will be donated to charity or donated to our coat exchange program in December. In December we will have a rack with a winter coat exchange for families to donate coats in good condition or take coats if needed.
We REALLY Need Substitutes!
We are really in desperate need of subs! The pay is $120 per day for subbing for a teacher and $13 per hour (~$97 a day) for subbing for a paraeducator. We use an online program called Frontline managed by Kelly Services, a subbing agency, to enter staff absences. Once you are a sub, you can view absences and sign up. You can see which teacher and grade level need a sub and when, and select the days/classes you'd want to sub for. Sometimes teachers need just a half day sub, or even a half day of availability is better than no sub.
A lot of subs let us know what days of the week or times of year they are generally available, and if something comes up unexpectedly like a staff illness, we might call you or text you the night before or morning of to see if you are available on a short notice. Subbing really is a way to gain insight into all the wonderful things happening at WES and be a greater part of our school community.
