Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Updates
Friday, September 15 is our first 50/50 Professional Development Day. Please see the flyers below regarding offerings. Flyers are linked to the pictures and they have information about registering in Performance Matters.
Eduphoria Updates
Academic Deans were previously granted district-level permissions. In providing this level of access to various roles district-wide, it also expanded the number of users with rights to modify and delete campus and teacher tests. Since these rights have been enabled, we have received multiple Help Ticket requests to recover deleted tests and deleted teams. We recognize we are in an adjustment period with the new Eduphoria platform. To protect the security of all tests we are beginning to limit the number of users with full district-level access. Starting this week, you will have campus-level access only.
We apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any questions, please feel free to email curriculum@saisd.net.
Coaching Emotions Without Making Things Weird
Elena Aguilar is hosting a free webinar with a live coaching demonstration.
- Have you ever been hesitant to coach emotions because you don’t want to overstep your role as a coach or leader?
- Do you want to coach emotions (responsibly), but you are afraid of making people feel *too* uncomfortable if you ask them about their feelings?
- If you answered “yes!” to either of those questions, you won’t want to miss our upcoming free webinar.
At noon PT (3 pm ET) on Wednesday, September 20, Elena Aguilar will demonstrate a coaching conversation with a coachee who is experiencing unpleasant emotions and then “pull back the curtain” and walk you through her coaching moves. Time permitting, she’ll also be answering a few questions. We hope to see you there!
Not able to join live? No problem. All registrants will receive a link to the recording within 24 hours.

College Readiness and Post Secondary Initiatives Updates
- Introductions:
- Please join me in congratulation Mirinda Coleman, our new Director for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). Mirinda has been a member of the GATE team for seven years and most recently served all the high schools.
- Please welcome Ruben Pena, our new HS GATE IS. Ruben most recently served as a campus GT teacher at Marshall HS, where he was also a winning Academic Decathlon coach.
- Integrated assessment
- The PSAT School Day is coming. Remember that we intend for ALL students in the 10th & 11th grades who are intellectually capable to take these assessments. They play a critical role in building scholars who are ready to go to college. Campuses should be looking at data in the following ways:
- For 10th graders: have you identified your students who scored at Masters in Algebra or English for additional enrichment on the Khan Academy to prepare for the PSAT
- For 11th graders: have you looked at their scores from last year’s PSAT to identify those students who are in the range of national recognition programs. They should be in some sort of enrichment strategy such as Khan Academy, or SAT prep sessions to help them maximize their scores.
- It looks like we are celebrating a significant increase in the numbers of students who were identified as eligible for National Hispanic Recognition, National African American Recognition, and National Native American Recognition programs. Keep up the great work!
- Khan Academy
- Please make sure that your teachers are signing up and using this with students. Remember that our goal is to have all students using Khan at least 30 minutes a week. Training Opportunities | Khan Implementation Time line | Teacher and Student Activation Data
Click the student activation guide below for your students and district rostering platform. The guides provide step-by-step guidance to help your students activate their accounts.
· Student activation via ClassLink
· Student activation with class code
If you haven’t yet activated your teacher account, you’ll want to do that now. Follow these steps!
- College Prep/TCB
- Please make sure that your teachers have rostered all of their students in their College Prep courses. Remember that there should be no juniors in these courses without approval through Liz Ozuna.
- OnRamps
- Please try to visit your OnRamps teachers to see that they are up and running. The report that we received from OnRamps recently shows a very low percentage of students completing the required orientation module. These modules were designed to launch students successfully into the course and the responsibility for student completion of them falls on the OnRamps teacher. If you would like to speak more about our OnRamps program, or if you have questions, please reach out.
- Dual Credit
- Our BOY Dual Credit meeting will be virtual and asynchronous. Please look for a link to this “meeting” coming to your inbox.
The first 3 Deans that email kcline1@saisd.net with 3 take-aways will receive a prize. Please remember to communicate information from the newsletter and our meeting to your department and leadership team.
