Check out what's happening at Nike
Happy Fall!
Some parents have asked how they can be involved in their child's education. The most important way to stay involved in your child's education is to check your email, Dojo from teachers, read the Thursday folder every Thursday evening, and help your child nightly with their homework.
Nike PTO will be providing the main dish for Parent Teacher Conference Night on Nov. 14th, but if you would like to help, you can sign up at the Sign Up Genius here:

Upcoming Events:
- Monday, Nov. 13th we will have Pancakes with Patriots then a Veterans Day Assembly. If you would like to attend, please complete the form below. We are also asking for any Nike family members who have pictures of their military members to bring them to the office so they can be in our slideshow during the assembly.
- We will celebrate the end of First Trimester on Thursday, Nov. 9th. The permission slip was sent home in Thursday folders and must be returned
- No School Friday, Nov. 10th
- Parent teacher conferences will be Nov. 14th. Communication will be sent home from your child's classroom teacher regarding signing up for a conference time.
- Schoolwide Balloons over Broadway parade will occur on Friday, Nov. 17th. Information image is linked below and was sent home in your child's Thursday folder.
- No school Nov. 20-24th for Fall break!

8 PILLARS OF SUCCESS
From Ms. Raeker
This month I will be speaking to students about feelings and emotions. I will also discuss coping skills to keep students focused and ready to learn. The week of October 30th – November 3rd, our school held a food drive and collected over 850 items. The food collected will be used to provide Turkey Dinner Baskets to some of our Nike families.
If your student needs a hat, coat, or gloves, please tell them to see me or the school nurse. We have some in various sizes we can share with those in need. Happy November!
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636-271-1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
Veterans Day
From Nurse Jenny
Health Conditions- If your student has a specific health condition or needs special care during the school day such as medication, treatments, or monitoring, please inform your school nurse and provide your nurse with a care plan. Individual health care plans help keep your student safe and healthy.
Sick students- Please keep all sick children home from school- this includes fever greater than 100 degrees, vomiting or diarrhea. If you are unsure, please call your healthcare provider or school nurse for advice.
Head Lice- It’s that time of year where our students break out their coats, scarves and hats. Please encourage your child not to share such items as hats, scarves, brushes or any personal items. Lice is not a danger to your child’s health, it is simply an annoying problem that comes around this time of year, so no need to panic. Please know that anyone and everyone can get lice. Getting lice has nothing to do with you being clean or dirty, it only has to do with the fact that you are human. It is very important to check your family for lice this time of year regularly. If you find any live lice or eggs, it is absolutely necessary to treat each “infected” person, but more importantly, YOU MUST notify the school so that we can effectively and confidentially assist you with monitoring. The school nurse can assist you with proper treatment options as well as identify and demonstrate for you what to do.
FLU HYGIENE TIPS
1. Avoid unnecessary touching of your eyes, mouth and nose– key entry points for the flu virus. 2. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough
3. Wash your hands with soap and water often
4. Disinfect desks, tabletops and bathrooms often during the flu season to help prevent the spread of the virus
5. Supplement hand washing with hand sanitizers, which are effective in killing germs on the hands
6. Vaccinations are the single, most effective way to prevent the flu
Footwear
We love cute boots, sandals, and shoes with heels to make our outfit complete, but these can lead to ankle sprains, fractures and heel pain. Please send your child in appropriate footwear. Sneakers are the best choice for recess and physical education.
Thanks,
Nurse Jenny
MUSIC
First and second grades are working on a holiday revue to be performed at Riverbend on 12/7 at 6 pm. If the students would like to practice on their own the songs are posted on their Google Classroom pages. Third and fourth grade will have a concert on 3/21 and kindergarten will have graduation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Art
Nike Artists have been working hard preparing their work for exhibit, which is one of the objectives for the older grades during the first trimester. We had work on display at First State Community Bank, made decorations for Grandparents Day, and have another art show in the New Year!
If you are able, below is a small list of items that are always needed in art:
Egg cartons 12 or 18 count
Clean lids from sour cream style containers
Unscented baby wipes
Thank you for sharing your artists with me!
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office. See below the amazing things going on in Art class.
Library
Thank you to all families and kiddos who supported our Fall Book fair! We had a great turn out for our Parent breakfast. Book fair helps the library purchase even more new books and other fun stuff.
PE
The cold weather is upon us. With this happening our activities for PE will start to focus more on sports/games that are meant to be inside. We will be moving into Basketball followed by Hockey shortly after.
Please make sure your child is wearing proper shoes for PE on their PE days. This is for their own comfortability.
Title 1 Reading
In Mrs. Hollstein's class we practice reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. We are focusing on phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and distinguish sounds. This includes: recognizing sounds alone and in words, adding sounds to words, taking apart words and breaking them into different sounds, and moving sounds. Attached you will find some activities you can practice at home.
Also, it is so important to read at home for 20 minutes daily. At the end of each month, we will have a celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and are completing their daily reading.
