RDN Recommendation: Make your primary beverage plain water!
How much water do I really need?
Adults should consume no less than 64 oz of plain water each day, more if they are active.
Children's needs vary based on age, size, and activity. To make sure that they are getting enough, make sure they have fresh water available throughout the day. Water should be their primary beverage, milk can be offered as a snack compliment -or- with meals. Juice, pop, and other sugar-sweetened beverages are treats only. Not a daily option.
Why?
Water is the medium of countless bodily reactions and makes up approximately 60% of the human body. Things tend to go wrong when we aren't getting enough water including dry skin, constipation, headaches, tiredness, and muscle cramps.
