KHS Fall Conferences Oct 19-Oct 22
We are pleased that so many of you have been working with your students and teachers already. We applaud each of your efforts in building a student success network during this challenging time.
Oct 19-Oct 22, we will offer Fall Conferencs. Each teacher will offer conferencing formats and opportunities that can be scheduled.
Students will be released at 12:10 to go home for the afternoon. Sack lunches will be provided near the end of the day prior to leaving.
If your student is struggling, please feel free to reach out to a teacher at anytime to develop plans to support your student. Parents and guardians are essential in student social, emotional and academic support at this time. We understand the commitment and work that is taking as you manage other responsibilities. Our counseling department can assist with this support and resources needs as well. Don’t hesitate to make these contacts. We want to assist all of our students and families.
Staff emails are available on the Kalama High School Webpage in the Staff Directory. Staff email addresses are the first name. full last name @kalama.k12.wa.us. Our school phone number is 360-673-5212.
State Testing
Washington students take state and federal tests regularly to assess their learning growth as well as the progress of the educational system as a whole. During the week of October 18th we will be running three different tests for federal and state accountability.
(1) The Smarter Balanced Assessment for English Language Arts
(2) The Smarter Balanced Assessment for Math
(3) The Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science
The Smarter Balanced Assessments and the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) are normally given in spring. The spring 2021 tests were postponed until fall of 2021. The fall 2021 tests will be reflective of the grade students were in during the 2020-21 school year. Below is the testing schedule/school schedule for the week of October 18th. Tuesday will be ELA, Wednesday will be Science, Thursday Math, and Friday will be the Healthy Youth Survey.
Attendance Matters
For students who are working at home, teachers will continue to update their Canvas pages and working directly with students for support. These days for attendance are just as important if you are not sick and able to work on your school work from home.
If your student is absent from class, please notify the attendance office to clear their absence.
