A Message from Mrs. Caudill
I find that as my son is getting older (he's a 5th grader) it is getting harder and harder to keep him engaged in conversations that don't revolve around soccer, the ESPN highlight reel and whatever video game he is currently playing. Now don't get me wrong, I love talking with him about his interests. But, there is so much more to my kiddo that he just doesn't offer up on his own. I read a blog about a month ago (I can't remember where) about how to have deeper conversations with your kids. These are questions to ask that are playful, open-ended and let us see a different side of our kids than we normally would. As an educator I have used these questions and have seen our teachers use many of these questions as a way to get students talking in the classroom. It is crazy to me how I never thought of using them at home:
- If I said yes to anything right now, what would you ask me?
- If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
- If you could have any superpower, what would you have and why?
- If I said pack your bags for a trip, where are we going?
I am sure you can think of a number of questions like this that will allow you and your kids to have conversations that make you laugh, build memories and maybe give you an insight into your child's thoughts, wishes and imagination you did not have before.
Stay well,
Devon Caudill

HABIT 4 - THINK WIN-WIN!
During the Month of January we will be working on Habit 4: Think Win-Win this month. Everyone can Win!
What this means: Think about others as well as yourself. Long-term relationships require mutual respect and mutual benefit.
“I make deposits into others’ Emotional Bank Accounts.”
“When conflict arises, I look for third alternatives.”
“I balance courage for getting what I want, with
consideration for what others want.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Live by the Golden Rule- Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.
