Cub Connection

Hello CELC & MVLA Families,

Mrs. Nash's class enjoyed CELC's first field trip since COVID-19. Her students visited Oma's Pumpkin Patch on Friday. It was nice to send a group off campus for learning and fun. We are so thankful for opportunities like this. CELC will be having their annual Halloween Costume Parade on Friday. Parents are welcome to join us on campus. Students will be walking around the upper campus. Parents may sit at the tables or gather around in the grass areas to view the most adorable parade in Alpine! We plan to begin around 9:15 am. Students will check in at the classroom and then make their way out after attendance has been taken.

The District continues to be guided by California Department of Public Health and our experiences from last year. Thank you for your support while we navigate the 2021-22 school year.

Important Updates and Information:

• Thank you to everyone who came out for the SHES Fall Festival. It was a MAJOR hit. Around 5,000 people attended. Their staff and PTA appreciate your support!
• As a reminder, CELC official start time is 9:05 am. Students are not considered late until 9:06 am.
  
• Please make sure that you send your student to school with a mask and a water bottle.
• PTA is looking for help with planning and organizing our Annual Turkey Trot in November. Call the office and speak to Stephanie if you would like to help.
• Please consider joining the PTA. Membership information is attached below! Checks or Venmo are accepted. Call the office for more information at 619-659-8250.
• Students can be dropped off at the curb in the morning as long as there is a staff member present and it is before 9:05 am.
• AUSD's next Kindness Dress Up day is Wednesday, November 3. We "Crazy about Kindness" so come with crazy hair an/or wear crazy socks.

Ms. McCalley touched the lives of so many! She will be missed beyond words! Please keep her family, her students, and her teaching partners in your thoughts. We will have support on campus Tuesday when the MVLA students return to school. Ms. Broderick will be in touch with families with additional information.

We are looking forward to some Halloween fun on Thursday, October 28th. Parents, please check in at the CELC prior to heading down to MVLA. Ms. McCalley would want us all to gather and continue on with fun festivities in her honor.

Please consider joining the PTA. We are exited to be planning what looks like a more "normal" year filled with fundraisers, events, and field trips. Our PTA helps sponsor these actives and they need your help! Click to view and print the membership form. You can also pick up a form at the office. The shirt order will be picked up on Monday or Tuesday. We will be filling the orders the rest of the week.

As you have heard, AUSD recently incorporated a digital program called i-Ready into our district-wide curriculum. This program is being used in grades kindergarten through eighth grade and encompasses both assessment and skills practice in reading and math. Student reports were sent home on Friday. If you did not receive a report, please contact your student's teacher. It may be that they have not completed it. Also, FYI, TK has not started the program yet. They will begin in November.

Below are the forms needed to pick up your student's Chromebook and/or renew your insurance from last year. Copies will also be available in the school office. All CELC TK and K students need a device to use daily in the classroom.

Mrs. Ripke will continue the Cubs in the Community tradition this school year. Her goal is to connect with 100 Cubs (Future, Former, or Current) by the 100th day of school. Building relationships with our students is important to us! If you see Mrs. Ripke out in the community, encourage your student to say hi. Not only does it create an opportunity to connect, it also supports students' language and communication skills. Follow the sightings on our FB page. Feel free to share our postings to spread the word. Mrs. Ripke looks out for future, current, and former Cubs! The sightings were slim this week. Be on the look out for Mrs. Ripke.

Please contact Stephanie Green in the office if you have any questions about PTA and any other volunteer opportunities.If you haven't already, please make sure all paperwork is completed and turned in. This includes an up-to-date TB test, the volunteer form, and proof of the COVID-19 vaccination. Persons not vaccinated are required to show a negative PCR COVID-19 test within the previous 7 days of your volunteer day. Please check with your child's teacher for any opportunities coming up. The office could utilize volunteers as well. Let us know if you like to organize!

We have a need for adult volunteers to help clean out some spaces on campus. If anyone is willing to volunteer after school or on the weekend, please let us know.

Join our AUSD family in utilizing resources at www.actionforhappiness.org. They have monthly themes and ideas to help keep us Happier-Kinder-Together!

Especially when things are feeling a bit tough, it can help to set some goals. Making goals achievable and ensuring that you have a few short term as well as longer term, more ambitious goals helps us feel we're making progress. It doesn't matter if your goal for the day is something really small, the important thing is to give yourself the opportunity to feel like you've achieved something and to celebrate that! This month's calendar is full of ideas to help you think about how you can put this into practice.

Creekside currently has three part-time job openings: Instructional Aide, Preschool Teacher, EAK Teacher, and Child Nutrition Assistant.

The district would like to increase the number of substitute teachers in our pool. The pay has increased to $200 dollars a day. Please help spread the word. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Mrs. Ripke.
