The first two days were a success! The students and I are getting to know each other and we are all getting acquainted with some of the changes this year at Hopkins!

Parent interviews are due Wednesday. Safety Patrol forms are due right away (Kindergarten starts Tuesday). Students should be practicing their facts and reading 20 minutes nightly. Please try your best to enforce this practice as a part of their nightly homework routine.

We had a busy couple of days with learning most of the rules, procedures, and safety policies in our school. We even met with Mrs. Miley to discuss how to "fill up someone's bucket" and she reviewed our Choose to Be Nice program and pledge.

I've attached the previous newsletter at the bottom. Please read it and refer to the snack policy when sending in a snack. I appreciate your attention to this matter. If you haven't already, please take some time to update your parent portal so that you are receiving all of the communication (sign up for Remind too).

Math: Chapter 1 - Place Value

Reading: Students will begin choosing "good fit books" to start reading for their 1st Quarter AR goal. We will begin learning the reading workshop routine and start reading Shiloh.

Writing: Students will take a writing pre assessment this week as well as take a spelling analysis to get knowledge of their area of spelling development. We will also create our "Hopes and Dreams" and our self portraits.

Science/Social Studies: The focus will be team building while we study the scientific method. We will be studying the continents and oceans. Students will have a quiz on Friday, August 31.

**We are continuing our team building and development of classroom community.

Students will not eat lunch until 12:25. Therefore, students may bring in a daily start to be eaten after related arts. Due to food allergies, I ask that all students bring in a fresh fruit or vegetable for a snack. I appreciate your attention to this matter.

Hello! I am a 5th grade teacher at Hopkins Elementary. I enjoy spending time with my little family in Hiram, Ohio. I have three children: Ricky (7), Nora (4), and Sean (3). I love my church, road tripping, everything Disney, and creating memories. I have been at Hopkins for 10 years now between 4th and 5th grade. We are going to have a great year!
