RSU 57 Community Newsletter

Message from the Superintendent
Dear RSU 57 Community,
On behalf of the RSU 57 administration, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and caregivers who have loved and cared for our students. Your selfless sacrifices and unconditional love make our schools a better place through the support you give your child. We know that being a caregiver is not always easy. It requires long hours, patience, and a great deal of love. But we also know that it is one of the most rewarding experiences in life. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you. Thank you for all that you do for our students. You are truly making a difference in their lives.
The sunshine has finally arrived! This past weekend was a picture perfect Maine weekend. I hope you all had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather. With the arrival of these warmer temperatures we are reminded that the 2022-23 school year is quickly winding down. With 5 weeks remaining in the school year we have a great many things taking place between now and June 15. From upcoming kindergarten screenings to senior celebrations - where we are preparing to welcome our youngest students and send off our oldest - the months of May and June are extremely busy. Many of our elementary students will be experiencing Spring field trips and our transition work of preparing our 5th graders for Massabesic Middle School and our 8th graders for Massabesic High School is well underway. Lastly, school and department leaders will complete year-end reviews of their buildings with an eye towards continued improvement for the 2023-24 school year.
As always, I wish to share my gratitude to our RSU 57 parents, guardians and caregivers for the amazing support they’ve provided our district this school year. When schools and caregivers work in partnership great things can happen. I’m looking forward to a successful end to this school year and continued partnership in the years ahead.
Have a safe and warm week.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephen D. Marquis

During the week of May 1st, Alfred Elementary students in grades 3-5 participated in a special assembly that focused on the theme of "perseverance". Students collaborated with staff to create a skit, played interactive games, and were interviewed regarding what perseverance means to them. Thank you to Ms. Graham, Ms. LaPage, Miss Coffey, Miss Shopland, and Ms. McCarthy for their fantastic work with our students around this important trait!

From the Office of the Asst. Superintendent
Dear RSU 57 Community,
I hope this newsletter finds you all well. I’d like to extend a belated Happy Mother’s Day to all of our district’s mother’s, step-mothers, grandmothers and caregivers and I hope you were all able to enjoy the day yesterday. The school year is less than 5 weeks until completion. As an educator and parent of three school-aged children, I know that the end of the school year can be a busy and stressful time for families. With final exams, projects, warming weather and after school activities all vying for attention, it can be hard to make sure that students are finishing the year on a positive note.
Here are a few tips that I have found helpful:
Set a regular study schedule and stick to it. This will help students stay on top of their work and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Create a positive learning environment at home. This means providing a quiet place to study, free from distractions.
Encourage students to take breaks. Students need time to relax and recharge, so don't be afraid to let them take a break from studying as needed.
Help students stay organized. This can be a big help, especially for younger students. There are many different organizational tools available, so find one that works for your child. One suggestion is creating a checklist of “to-do’s” that students can work from in order to prioritize their work.
Be positive and supportive. Let your child know you believe in them and that you are there to help them succeed.
By following these tips, you can help your child finish the school year on a positive note. I wish a fantastic final month of the school year to all of our RSU 57 students and families.
My Best,
Mr. Kyle Keenan
