We had a great turnout for the Akron Family Math Night and Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you to our students and parents for participating and to our wonderful school staff for organizing and conducting the different math activities and games.

The 1st grade took a field trip to the Fish Hatchery in Wray followed by lunch at the Wray Roadside Park and ended with a dinosaur and fossil presentation at Mr. Bledsoe's home.

The students learned about the life cycle of fish and how they are prepared to move from the hatchery to a pond.

Mr. Bledsoe showed the class fossils, eggs, and other dinosaur artifacts.

Elyse Jackson presented her speech at the 6NE District Convention last Saturday, April 1st. Elyse was one of 5 contestants giving her speech in front of all members in attendance. All 5 contestants gave great speeches. Though the competition was tough, Elyse did a wonderful job presenting her speech. Thank you, Elyse, for participating in Akron Lions Club’s speech contest and competing at districts!

Akron FCCLA students along with their advisor, Peggy Hall, had a great conference last week at the Embassy Suites Loveland Convention Center.

Shon Butz, Zaya Wells, and Syvannah McGuire were recognized as being 3rd in the nation in the Knowledge Matters Business Finance competition. They will compete next week online against the top 8 in the country for a monetary prize.

Star Events Competitors received the following awards:

Molly Porteus and Fiona Quick received gold medals

Addie Weis and Taylor Benish received gold medals

Kayla Becker and Bibi Davisson received silver medals

Zaya Wells, McKenna Lucero and Lluvia Arteaga received bronze medals

Alia Winter and Kinley Brown received bronze medals.

Shon Butz, Tom Hall, Brie Sampson and Sydney Woods also attended and helped judge the events. Also attending were James Vorce and Darin Knutzen.

Highlights were speaker Adam Carriker, 8 year NFL player with the Redskins and the Rams. Apperances on Fox News and Father of 6! He discussed adversity and how to persevere to achieve goals. Students also enjoyed a multimedia slideshow brought to them staight from Los Angeles. Its inspirational message emphasized making life count and staying away from detrimental choices.

Thank you to TBK Bank for sponsoring the 2023 basketball hoop shoot opportunity for Akron Schools. The third, fourth, fifth grades and high school wellness class all benefited from working the events.

The Akron Ram baseball team was back in action again last Saturday - this was supposed to be an away contest at Holyoke, but this time Holyoke’s field was too wet to play, so the Rams hosted the Dragons. Both the Varsity and JV Rams walked away with wins, with the Varsity team winning 10-7, and the JV winning 17-6.

Proud of you, Rams! Keep working hard!

Our Akron Ram bus drivers were busy this Friday afternoon taking a First Aid & CPR class. We are blessed to have a great team of bus drivers!

The fundraiser for the Graduation Fund is fast approaching. Every Akron graduate benefits from this fundraiser for years to come. Please remember to donate your item to your students class basket project as soon as possible. Thank you!
