This Week At SHOJ
Feb. 25, 2021
From Mrs. Rhodes
Believe it or not, it is time for planning one of Sacred Heart’s biggest fundraisers, the Brown Bottle Dinner and Auction. It will be held virtually on Saturday, April 17, 2021. The gift baskets are a huge hit every year, thanks to your generous donations. Our goal is always to make the baskets bigger and better every year. Each grade is assigned a theme. You are invited to purchase items (big or small) based on your child’s grade level/theme and send them to school.
· Kindergarten – Boys and/or girls Legos
· First – Boys and/or girls sleepover
· Second – Gift Cards
· Third – Kansas City Sports (Chiefs, Royals and Sporting KC)
· Fourth – KU and/or K-State
· Fifth – Summer fun
· Sixth – Gift Cards
· Seventh – Girls just want to have fun (We will do ALL of the shopping for this basket, we are just asking for monetary donations.)
· Eighth – All American Boy (We will do ALL of the shopping for this basket as well. We are just asking for monetary donations.)
If you do not have time to shop, we can always do the shopping for you. Please send your donations (checks made out to Sacred Heart) in an envelope with your child’s name and grade level or click on the following link.

All donations must be received by March 26, 2021, as the gift baskets will be assembled the week of March 29. The baskets will be on display the week of April 5 and the students will be able to purchase raffle tickets beginning on April 12. More information on the raffle tickets will be sent home at a later date. If you have any questions, please email Kim Dreiling at kim.dreiling@shoj.org. Thank you in advance for your generous time and donations.
Can you believe Covid has been here almost a year?
We are approaching ONE year since the beginning of this strange pandemic and we here in the SHOJ counseling department are dedicated to upholding the mental health of our Sacred Heart students and staff. We recognize the added worry and frustrations many students are experiencing as a result of the current Covid way of life. It’s more difficult than ever for kids to rely on and anticipate the future. Visiting grandparents, attending birthday parties, or just simply being able to see each other’s’ faces are distant memories for some. We know that any time a child faces these kinds of significant changes, it can cause fear, anxiety, and sadness. We want to invite you to take another look at the signs of anxiety and depression so that we can work together to protect our students and help them manage their stress, worries, and sadness. Please see the attached PDF below.
WE ARE ONE more than ever before. Mrs. Tinker and Mrs. Schierts are honored to be mental health resources for you at SHOJ and are ready to provide confidential support for you and your family in any way we can. Please reach out anytime if you have any questions or concerns about your student’s mental health.

Save the Date - track and band pictures
6th-8th grade SHOJ Band and 3rd-8th grade CYO Track Team Yearbook photos will be taken at school on March 5.
· Please remind your students to wear their “We are One” school spirit shirt with uniform bottoms on that day.
· Band students should bring their instruments to SHOJ on March 5. We will take photos during study hall at the end of the day.
· CYO Track photos will be taken during the 3rd-8th grade lunch times. Please talk with your child about this in advance so that they know if they are planning to be in track or not. I will just ask that all track members join us for the photo at their grade-level’s time.

Catholic Parents as Stewards is Looking for Help
Vision Screenings Soon
I will be conducting vision screens on all students March 9th-11th. I am borrowing a spot vision screening device from Vision Care Associates in Shawnee. This device gives quick results and is highly effective at detecting a multitude of vision abnormalities. I plan to have students keep masks on and stay distanced during the screens. Please try to have your children at school these days, as I will be returning the device after school on March 11th. I will only contact a parent if there is an abnormal result.
Thank you!
Also—0 new cases or quarantines this week!
