CDC GUIDANCE

Good afternoon, WSD Families.

As we come back from winter break, we hope that all staff, students, and families had a relaxing and enjoyable time off. Based on CDC guidance that was announced over break, the Wentzville School District will follow the below guidelines for staff and students:

People with COVID-19 are not permitted to come to work or school and are required to isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. After those initial 5 days, if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), they may return to work or school and wear a mask for an additional 5 days when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter.

If you test positive for COVID-19 (Isolate):

• Stay home for 5 days

• If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house

• Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days

If you have a fever, continue to stay home until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours.

This change follows the Board-approved District communicable disease policy (2860 policy) that states:

“A student shall not attend classes or other school-sponsored activities, if the student (1) has, or has been exposed to, an acute (short duration) or chronic (long duration) contagious or infectious disease, and (2) is liable to transmit the contagious or infectious disease, unless the Board of Education or its designee has determined, based upon medical evidence, that the student:

1. No longer has the disease.
2. Is not in the contagious or infectious stage of an acute disease.
3. Has a chronic infectious disease that poses little risk of transmission in the school environment with reasonable precautions.”

Families of student-athletes, MSHSAA announced today that, "At this time there are no changes to the current MSHSAA Return To Play Form/Protocols for 'student-athletes' who have 'tested positive' ... Student athletes who “test positive” for Covid19 are still required to quarantine from practices and competitions for 10-days and after being released by physician they may begin the five stage Return to Play protocol."

Keeping schools open for in-person instruction remains our top priority, and it is important that we all do our part to keep school communities healthy. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 and make adjustments as necessary.
