WEEKLY NEWS FOR APRIL 30, 2021
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and/or Guardians:
We will be administering the state-required IAR Test (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) to all students starting Monday, May 3rd. If a student attends school daily during the testing window, they will be done testing on Friday, May 7th. Our goal is to have all testing completed by Tuesday, May 11th. Students will be taking one test per day (except for Friday), in the morning. The tests have different times, but on average take an hour to an hour and a half to complete. There are three Math tests, two English Language Arts tests and one short 10 minute ELA test that we will be adding to our Friday Math test. We will alternate the content area tests each day, to avoid testing fatigue. Please refer to the schedule below, but understand that testing is subject to change.
If a student is ill on a day of testing, we have a few makeup options and will test them when they get back. Please do not send your child to school if they are not feeling well. The eLearners will be tested as well, and we have shared information about this to those families.
Below are some suggestions to support your child to do his/her best on the IAR Test.
Attend school on all days of testing, unless the child is ill.
Arrive at school on time each morning, as we are testing first thing on some days.
Get a good night’s sleep each night before testing.
Eat a complete breakfast the mornings of testing at home or at school.
Remind him/her to wear glasses if they have them.
Help get them excited to show off what they know and put forth a solid effort.
Ease any anxieties, as this is just a test and we are confident in their abilities.
Have your child bring headphones and a fully charged Chromebook every day.
Write them a note each morning of encouragement. You can write on the bathroom mirror with a dry-erase marker or slip a note in his/her backpack.
As a school, we really promote a fun and positive testing environment. This is the time for our students to show off everything they have been learning all year long.
Sincerly,
Gerrie Aulisa
