What's Happening In August?
Welcome to SCES and the 2022-2023 School Year!!
We are so excited to have you and your students back in the building for the 22-23 school year. Please let us know if we can help you and your students make this year this best school year yet.
Doctor or Parent Notes for Student Absences
We understand that it is inevitable that your student will probably have to miss school on certain occasions. It is our goal at SCES to limit the amount of unexcused absences your student accrues throughout the year. Please DOJO your student's teacher, bring a doctor's excuse or call or write the front office to turn that unexcused absence into an excused absence. Make sure to bring those doctors notes in each time because the attendance policy allows only 7 parent notes throughout the year.
Final Forms
SCSD has moved all enrollment packets to digital format through an app called Final Forms. Each student should have a viable parent email through PowerSchool (Parent Portal) in order for these forms to be pushed out. The digital format will allow parents the convenience of finalizing paperwork at home, linking multiple siblings together to reduce time and paperwork and auto-filling data for students in the upcoming years. Parents can create accounts once an email has been received or can follow the directions linked below to set set up your own account. If you have not received an email inviting you to create an account with Final Forms, please submit your name, email address, and students information on the google form linked below. Please contact the school if you need help with this process.
MAP/Acadience Testing
The MAP and Acadience testing window for our Fall MAP and Acadience Screener will be open from Monday, August 8 until Friday August 19. Please make sure your student is present at school in order to complete their screener. This screener will help us better determine how we can individualize your students education.
APTT Night at SCES
SCES will have Academic Parent Teacher Team Night at SCES on August 25th at 6:00 PM.
Transportation
Seminole County Schools 1:1 Initiative (Chromebooks)
The SCSD 1:1 Digital Initiative aims to create a modern learning environment that effectively prepares our students for successful lives and careers in an ever-evolving 21st-century society. We believe the best way to accomplish this is to ensure that every student in our district has reliable access to technology for instructional use throughout the day.
By providing our students with Chromebooks to use both in class and at home, we are also providing access to an incredible supply of instructional resources that can amplify the instructional experiences our students and teachers can share together and cultivate a deeper understanding of the skills and content covered on a daily basis while also providing for opportunities to teach our students based on their specific, personal needs.
This initiative will bridge the gap of the “Digital Divide” by providing equitable access to secure modern technology that will prepare all students for the rigors of the workplace, post-secondary education, and adulthood.
The Seminole County School System will charge each student who is eligible for the device a fee of $25 per year. This fee will enable the student to be issued a Chromebook and will enroll them in the Accidental Damage Protection Plan.
Paying the student technology fee each semester enrolls students in accidental damage protection. This plan includes drops, cracks, normal wear and tear, and. hardware failure.
Students will be held responsible for any damages not covered in the accidental damage protection plan including lost/stolen devices, intentional damage, picked off keys, damage to ports, broken screens and charging cables.
The deductible for repairing a broken or damaged screen will be $50.00. Lost or damaged chargers will be $25.00.
The SCSD Technology Plan is available below.
