Blaine High School First Week of School 9-5

September 5, 2022
A message from Blaine High School
Good evening Blaine High School families, and welcome to the 2022-23 school year.
Freshmen Only First Day
All Anoka-Hennepin high schools will begin the school year on Tuesday, September 6th, at 7:40 AM with freshmen only. Freshman (9th grade) students will participate in several activities that will allow them to get familiar with the school, the staff, and the daily schedule at Blaine High School. Sophomore, junior, and senior students will start on Wednesday, September 7th.
Here is a visual of our first week of school.
New Students (10th, 11th, and 12th Grade)
Students new to Blaine High School should know that there will be additional support provided for them from BHS staff when they start on Wednesday, September 7th. Although new 10th through 12th grade students are not required to attend school on Tuesday, September 6th, they are welcome to join us to connect with our support staff.
Weekly Schedule
We start school daily at 7:40 AM and end at 2:20 PM. However, please note that starting on Monday, September 19th, and continuing throughout the school year, students’ first-period classes will not start until 8:30 AM for most Mondays. From 7:10 until 8:20, Anoka-Hennepin teachers will meet in their collaborative teams to prepare curriculum, assessments, and develop student interventions. Busses will maintain their standard schedule on these days. Students able to provide their own transportation may arrive in time for the 8:30 start.
Parking Permits
We have a limited number of parking permits still available. Students can purchase a trimester one parking permit for $35 online through "SchoolPay." Permits are available for pickup in the Activity Center (fieldhouse) concession stand before and after school (7:00-7:30 AM and 2:20-3:00 PM) on September 7th-9th. Beginning September 12th, if students have not yet picked up their permits, they will be in the Activities Office.
Student Pictures/Yearbook
Student pictures will be taken on Tuesday, September 20th, for students who did not attend the picture day on August 17th. Lifetouch will take pictures for grades 9 through 11 students, and David Bank Studios will be here taking yearbook pictures for 12th-grade students during period 2-4. Please visit the Lifetouch website for more information and order forms. If you are interested in purchasing a ‘22-23 yearbook, please access this link. If you are interested in receiving yearbook information specifically related to seniors (senior portraits, ads for grads, photo submissions, etc.), please fill out this form to join our mailing list.
Student Schedules
Students may access their schedules by logging into StudentVUE available on both iPhone and Android devices. Any students who are new to Anoka-Hennepin may see their attendance office professional in the main office on their first day for a printout of their schedule.
Student Lunches
Due to a change by the USDA, school meals are no longer free to all students, with the exception of families who receive free/reduced lunch. All families should complete the free/reduced meal application form at www.ahschools.us/freereduced. A new application needs to be filled out each year. Apply for free meals now to be prepared for the 2022-23 school year. If you have any questions, please call the Child Nutrition Program at 763-506-1240. Here is more 22-23 Cafeteria Information & Meal Pricing.
Thank you for sharing your students with us. We look forward to an excellent school year.
Thank you,
Blaine High School Administrative Team

Traffic tips for the back to school season
The back to school season is a busy time for families, school staff and our communities. There is often more traffic congestion in this season and it’s more important than ever for drivers to pay attention before- and after-school to keep families, students and staff safe.
Check out these tips from the Anoka-Hennepin transportation department as a back to school reminder:
Crosswalks: Be mindful that we are sharing the road with young walkers and staff helping them across the crosswalks or intersections. Always stop for school patrols and crossing guards.
Know drop-off and pick-up procedures: Schools have procedures in place to keep traffic safe. Make sure you know your school’s plan for the safety of all students and staff.
Use slow speeds: Use caution in school zones and be aware of your surroundings. We can all work together to ensure the safety of drivers, school buses, walkers and bikers.
School bus safety: Familiarize yourself with school bus safety tips on the road. Always stop if yellow or red lights are flashing or if stop arms are extended from a school bus. Allow extra time for students to board and exit the bus and proceed to safe sidewalks to enter school zones or return home.
Share the road: Be patient of other vehicles stopped for pedestrians or using caution in school zones. Do not pass other vehicles or school buses. Be alert, young children may take an unpredictable path as they are learning safety rules.
Thank you for your partnership in school traffic safety.
