Hero Happenings!

Jackson (pictured below) won the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest that 6th graders across our region compete in each year. Jackson is in Mrs. Branch's English class and she was recognized as well! The contest is hosted each year by Wal-Mart and students are recognized in their organization. Jackson won a prize package and Hellstern got a monetary gift. Way to go Jackson - we are proud of you!!

These two students placed in the top for the Americanism essay contest hosted by the Elk's Lodge. Olivia Wright won first place and was awarded $75. Romania Jorkan won second place and was awarded $50. Both students' essays will be sent to the state competition and represent our region. We are so proud of their hard work!! Way to go girls!!

Thanks to Sarah Wilson, a 7th grade teacher and Student Council sponsor, who had the idea for this event and organized it. Also, we owe a HUGE thank you to our PTO for helping to pull it off so quickly. We learned quite a bit for our first time at doing this and it was hugely successful!! Our teams and cheer squad got to experience a super fan group! Here are some pics from the Thursday event:

Parents of sixth graders,

Tomorrow (Tuesday) students will be screened for BMI & Scoliosis during PE. If a student does not have PE this quarter, we will call for them throughout the day. This screening is required in the state of Arkansas. Screenings will be done in the locker rooms and spaces are created with barriers for privacy. Girls are welcome to wear a swimsuit top under their shirts.
