- GIVE a donation if you are able to give.
- DONATIONS students can collect pledges online, or they can bring in cash or a check made out to Ireland PTO. Please let us know who donated the money so we can give a shout-out to that individual on your child's pledge-o-meter!

Car Line Traffic - Hats off to You!
Parents,
First and foremost, a huge shout out to the parents, grandparents, or other individuals dropping-off and/or picking up students from the school. It is amazing the difference in the car line and that all goes to the drivers following the correct procedures. I appreciate it more than you can know!
Please make sure your child is getting out of the vehicle on the passenger side. Drivers should not be getting out of their cars in the morning. Please practice with your little kids on unbuckling their seatbelts.
REMINDER:
The Sheriff's department and the City of Jasper Police Department will be patrolling as much as they can. Please read carefully below what needs to take place to prohibit vehicles from getting landlocked and to keep traffic going.
- NO vehicles will be pulling into the car line from County Rd 500 W. if the street is full. All vehicles will wrap around the side streets and shoot across the county road to get to the car line.
- The county road 500W is for north and south traffic only, not for vehicles to pull into our car line.
- If you are heading south on 500 W, please turn right on West Center St. and wrap around to South Street to cross 500 W when traffic allows.
- If you are heading north on 500 W, please turn left onto Clay St. and wrap around to South Street to cross 500 W when traffic allows.
- If there is no backed up traffic, we will let you go straight up to South St to the car line.
- Per the Sheriff's Department, the road behind the Chicken Place is not part of our car line. Please avoid using the street to access our car line. To be quite honest, it is just rude to all the other parents that have followed the rules and are trying to help our situation.
Thanks for your help and PATIENCE!
New! Car Line Procedure
When you check-in at the car line, the individual on duty will tell you what lane to stay in and a number. We are going to take 6 cars at a time. When it is your turn, you will pull up to the number that the person gave to you.
Please have your number card displayed somewhere that is easy to view from outside and leave it in clear view until your child is in the car.
Spell Bowl Try-outs!
Do you have a 4th or 5th-grade student? If so and he/she is interested in trying out for this year’s Spell Bowl team we’d love to have them! They should have received a parent letter providing more information for you and the word list on Friday. If they did not receive one and would like one, you can access it below.
Please note:
Tryouts will begin Tuesday, Sept 1st with a test over words #1-50. Testing will continue on Wednesday, Sept 2nd on words #51-100, and on Thursday, Sept 3rd on words #101-150. Students should report to THE LGI ROOM in the cafeteria on these mornings at 7:30 a.m. Please contact Ashley O’Connor or Sara Olinger with any questions, or if your child cannot attend due to transportation but still wants to try out and we’ll make arrangements.
Thank you!

Vocabulary Boosters
Vocabulary is our school-wide learning goal. Vocabulary can help a child succeed in all subject areas. This week's reading connection is going to focus on how parents can help build their child's vocabulary.
A large vocabulary can turn your child into a better reader and writer. Try these everyday ways to help them learn new words.
Keep your ears open - When you and your child go places, point out words that people use. Maybe a waiter describes an entree or the dentist talk about molars. Encourage your child to figure out what the words mean by the way they're used.
Go beyond nouns - Help your child add adjectives and verbs to their vocabulary. Sports and games offer many opportunities to use action words. Let your child hear you comment on the baseball that soars or the runner that sprints. When you send thank-you notes or birthday cards, suggest ways they can add more descriptive words - fantastic birthday or striped shirt.
Kindness Challenge of the Week
Leave a kind note for someone in their desk or backpack.
Every week, your child will be receiving a kindness challenge! Jump in on the fun at home too! Help us promote kindness to all - at school, home, and community!
Ireland's Character Education Program
It is important to know that this is not an "everybody wins award." Students who are chosen are noticeably going above and beyond to model these skills. It is not to say other students do not. The intent of this program is to make kids consciously aware that their choices matter, and it isn't always easy to do the right thing. Many times in life doing the right thing is usually the hard thing!
1st Quarter Skills - Courage, Self-Control, & Tolerance
Dates to Remember

Tuesday, August 25th - September 3rd: Students get pledges for the Fun Run or flat donations; individuals can pledge online with student's link or students can bring cash/check to school with flat donation.
Thursday, September 3: Ireland Fun Run! Event will take place during school hours and we will Facebook Live the event for parents.
Monday, September 7: Labor Day No School!
Important Reminders and Updates
School hours are 7:50 a.m. -2:50 p.m. Students can arrive starting at 7:15 a.m. Students may not be dropped off prior to 7:15 AM. If you bring your child to school after 7:50 AM, you must escort them to the front doors.
No visitors at this time. We are highly encouraging parents who are bringing their child to school to use the car drop-off drive. If you would like to walk your child in, you will have to say good-bye outside the front doors. It will get congested there as that is where the buses drop-off. We will keep students moving as much as we can. Many staff members will be at all drop-off locations to help students to their appropriate classrooms. Please trust us that we have your child's best well-being in mind at all times.
All school supplies are provided by the PTO. Your child only needs a backpack, headphones, and a water bottle. Please write your child's name on all items.
Please see nurse Brandi Stiles for prescription medicine intake. All medicine must be accompanied by a parent and include a physician’s prescription. Students are not allowed to transport medicine to school.
VERY IMPORTANT- If your child's transportation changes, please notify the office with a note ASAP.

Elementary Reopening Plan
GJCS has shared a lot of information regarding the reopening of our schools based on information from the CDC, Indiana Department of Health, Dubois County Health Department, Governor Holcomb, and others. We encourage you to go to our corporation website or social media pages to review that information before the start of school.
We also wanted to share with you some steps being taken specifically at Ireland Elementary School to ensure the health and safety of students and staff during this time. This information applies to the additional considerations being taken during the “Green Stage,” as identified by GJCS, and is certainly not an all-inclusive list. It is being provided to give students an opportunity to learn of some of the changes they will be encountering in order to be better prepared on the first day and for parents to get a better idea of the measures being taken at Ireland Elementary specifically.
See attachment below for more information - this was also sent out as an email a few weeks ago.

Jasper Football League
Registration for players and coaches for the upcoming 2020 Jasper Junior Football League season is now available by clicking HERE.
Please review the following information carefully as there are several changes this year compared with previous seasons. While we have made accommodations in year’s past for late registration that will not be the case for this upcoming season.
• Registration is currently available online and will close on Friday, August 28th, at 5:00 PM.
• The league’s previous website provider was acquired over the past year. This year we have
moved to the new provider which will require parents to set up a new account. Information
from previous seasons will not carry over.
• The new JFL website is https://clubs.bluesombrero.com/default.aspx?portalid=51478.
• There will be no late registrants allowed for the 2020 season to accommodate team,
equipment, and logistical planning.
• All registration for the 2020 season will take place online.
• The registration fee for either JFL Tackle or JFL Flag is $10 for the 2020 season and is non-
refundable. There is an additional $10 fee for non-residents of Jasper.
Who can play?
For the 2020 season, participation is limited to those residing in the Greater Jasper Consolidated School District. Additionally, if attending GJCS or Holy Trinity schools, participants must be attending in-person classes to participate in JFL for the 2020 season.
What league would my child register for?
For those who have participated in the past, you know that we have had 3 leagues; a flag league for 1st & 2nd grade, and tackle leagues for 3rd / 4th and 5th / 6th grades. This format has changed for the 2020 season only. Please note the option of leagues for 4th Graders offered. Changes are described in the pdf file below.
