FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
A Wonderful Performance - The Show Went On!
Thank you to all who made sure our elementary students had a wonderful and safe experience after months of practice. Our students performed beautifully, and the students in the audience were well-behaved and attentive.
While we will always make decisions when necessary to protect our CSD faculty, staff, and students, it was gratifying that our 4th and 5th graders were able to have their day on the stage after months of practice thanks to many of you being present to not only support them but keep them safe!
It was my pleasure to sit in our WTHS auditorium and watch our kiddos showcase their talents!

Once again CSD is honored with NAMM's Best Communities for Music Education Award 2023
Centennial School District has been again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 24th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, CSD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
“Music teaches compassion, empathy, discipline, wellness, focus, language, history... the list goes on and on. Research shows that performing music reduces the stress hormone, cortisol, and releases endorphins that cause joy. Studies even show that singers who sing in a group together actually start to sync their heartbeats.” – Keith Abrahamson, Director of Vocal Music at William Tennent High School.

Giving Back is Good for Us
On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, William Tennent High School students volunteered to help their former 5th-grade teacher, Mr. Pisacano, and his class, celebrate Earth Week at McDonald Elementary School! William Tennent is so proud of these students: Isabella Juhas, Addie DiPaolo, Nicholas Mento, Emma Castellano, Kaeley Holt, and Dayana Villada-Varela.
Mr. Pisacano has been doing this event for approximately 24 years at McDonald Elementary School and he insists that "Without help from my former students, our 5th-grade students would not be able to have such a successful day of learning and fun!"
The high school students showed so much leadership and initiative from arrival, and within 30 minutes they had every learning center manned, set up, and ready for students!! These students spent 5 hours teaching and doing a project of some sort with the 5th-grade students at their chosen center. The 5th-grade students were very responsive to all of them. Mr. Pisacano remarked that he was so proud to see how mature and responsible his former students have become. He said he is proud that we are graduating some outstanding, caring, and loving young adults this year and that their can-do attitude showed him what can be done!
Dr. Henrich added “I am so proud of our students and their willingness to help foster a love of science for our younger students. That is a testament to the impact of their families, for sure, but also the impact of their teachers all throughout the district who have fostered a love of learning in them, as well as an appreciation for service. This day is the culmination of all of the hard work poured into our students for many years from all stakeholders. It is a perfect opportunity for them to shine before leaving us for bigger and better things.”
