December Update
Family Business Association
The holiday season is quickly approaching and we hope everyone will have a chance to spend some quality time with family and friends.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of FBA, we wish you a happy holiday season and best wishes for a prosperous new year!
We are very excited about 2022 as we slowly return to more opportunities to connect in person and continuing building on the family business relationships that are so important for everyone's growth in the new year.
The Board will be meeting in early January to review the association's strategic plan. We plan to communicate some valuable educational, networking and growth opportunities to all our members at that time. Stay tuned.
Family Business is the cornerstone of our community and show your support to all our family businesses and knowledgeable advisors.
Again, enjoy the holiday season and Happy New Year!
Next Gen Retreat to Tofino
The “NextGen” FBA Team gathered in Tofino this year for our annual retreat, at the beautiful Long Beach Lodge Resort.
We dubbed the event our “princess retreat,” because when given the choice of the more affordable shared rooms, or private ocean-view rooms, one of our members remarked, “like a princess, I would like an ocean room,” which led to a swift and resounding agreement among all of us to get ocean rooms.
Besides the obligatory group meals, FBA meeting, and music session, we had two main events planned for the weekend. On Friday afternoon, we spent several hours with a pair of facilitators who walked us through yoga, breath work, and a Tibetan singing bowl sound bath. It was immersive, deeply relaxing, and grounding.
On Saturday, we met up with the owner, guide and chef of Wild Origins for a morning of foraging. We gathered mushrooms (winter chanterelles and hedgehogs), kelp, and gooseneck clams. It was pouring rain the entire time, and the guide told us we had won the prize for the most adventurous and resilient group he has ever guided.
Later that evening, we met up for a 4-course gourmet meal prepared using the food we had foraged that morning. It was absolutely incredible, and I’m a mushroom skeptic!
I would highly recommend this experience to anyone. In case you’re wondering, Wild Origins will come to Victoria! https://wildorigins.ca/forage-and-feast-culinary-adventures/
It was another fantastic weekend and we are already looking forward to the next one.
Cheers, Jen
