Mountain View Weekly Update

- As the end of the school year approaches, face-covering fatigue amongst students is setting in. Administration is kindly requesting that parents reinforce the daily reminders that students are being given: Face coverings should fit snugly, completely cover the nose and mouth, and be worn at all times unless eating or outside for a mask break. Your support is appreciated.

-Reminder for 5th grade parents: To accommodate Move Up Day, where 4th graders visit Mountain View, tour the building, and meet with the 5th grade team, Wednesday, May 26 will be a 1:00 p.m. dismissal for all 5th graders. There will be no "at home extension." Administration appreciates your support and understanding.

- 8th grade parents: If you have not already done so, please review the May update communication from Mrs. Toth, sent on Wednesday, 5/12.

The Mountain View Parent Council serves on a volunteer basis and works with Ms.Toth (Principal) with the primary objective of fostering dialogue and communication on school-wide topics between the parent community and the School Administration. This team works on behalf of all parents to discuss educational and administrative matters that are of importance to all. The Mountain View Parent Council is in need of volunteers to serve a 2-year term. Meetings take place monthly on Friday mornings.

The Parent Council has the following openings next year grades will be those of your child NEXT year):

If you are interested in serving on the Parent Council, please contact Tina Chawla (chawlatina@gmail.com), Chairperson of the Parent Council, by Tuesday, May 25. We will randomly select from those interested. Please note: There will be a joint Parent Council Zoom Meeting with this year’s representatives and those starting next year on June 11 at 9:00 a.m.

The 2020-2021 Parent Council

Today in Advisory, we focused on building community and identifying how we can support each other socially and emotionally as we enter the final weeks of school. Students identified behaviors that classmates engage in that "bug" them, while owning behaviors they engage in that might "bug" others. Coping strategies (calming breaths, positive self-talk, and visualization techniques that promote a sense of calm) for angry/frustrated feelings were reviewed. In addition, we practiced techniques that can assist with managing conflict effectively with peers (i.e., assertive statements using the sandwich method). Ask your child which coping skill resonated most with them, or which strategies might work best for different situations. Practicing belly breathing together when you're calm helps you use it effectively when you're not! Enjoy the sunny weekend!

The annual HSA School Supply Kit sale is underway. The deadline to order is June 20; kits will be shipped to your home address in August.
