Canby High School Family Newsletter
For the Week of Sept 9th to Sept 15th, 2021
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
We’re in week 2 of the school year and routines are becoming established. It feels like we’re returning to some level of normalcy. Again, we appreciate all the efforts students are making to wear their masks properly, and maintain proper distancing.
COVID continues to be a major concern, and we have had a number of cases in our student body since the return to school. As you may have seen, when we have a case (or cases), I’ll email the community with a form letter. If a student is in “close contact” (as defined by the Oregon Health Authority) we will contact the family directly regarding quarantine procedures. The guidelines continue to change, especially in regards to after school activities, and we will communicate those as soon as possible. (Please see the latest regarding athletic events in the sections below.)
On Saturday, our nation recognizes the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Many may remember that the students and staff of Ackerman Middle School created a time capsule to commemorate the event. It will be unearthed this Saturday at 7:00am with a ceremony to follow at the Canby Fire Department at 8:00am. Also, Tyler Franke of Canby Currents has produced a film documenting the impact of Sept. 11th on our community. It debuts this weekend in the FAC. See more info about both of these events below.
Finally, with the onset of autumn, we welcome the return of football to CHS. Please join us Friday night for our first home game against West Albany High School. With the recent updates to state guidelines, we’re asking all those who attend to wear masks while in the stadium. Thank you!
Have a great week and Go Cougars!

Special Message regarding Athletic Events and COVID Protocols
We’re excited to have our student athletes back out doing what they love: competing. With the recent guidelines as of September 7th from the Governor’s Office, Oregon Health Authority, and Oregon Schools Activities Association, it’s important we communicate the update in our practices regarding masks.
For indoor athletics, all athletes, spectators/students, event workers, coaches, officials, and volunteers must wear masks. Athletes who are competing and/or practicing are allowed to remove their mask and replace it when they are off the competition area.
For outdoor athletics, all athletes, spectators/students, event workers, coaches, officials, and volunteers must wear masks. Athletes who are competing and/or practicing are allowed to remove their mask during practices and competitions.
We will have signs posted for reminders of the above guidelines. Please adhere to these as we want to allow our students to continue to do what they love and our community to continue to support them.
Also, please remember when we travel to other schools they may have the same or more restrictive guidelines.

Athletics
Athletics games are off and running. Please check the master schedule linked here for all the current game times and locations.
We already have some outstanding performances so far this year. Senior Matthew Soles is being recognized as a potential player of the week on Scorebooklive.com. Please vote for him here! If you think one of our teams had great performances, nominate them for OSAA team of the week! The link is here.
This Friday we have our first home football game at Canby Stadium. (Sorry, there won’t be any fireworks, due to construction.) Our very own Canby Booster Club is running a BBQ on Friday at the game. Booster members eat free and meals for non-members are $5 per person or $20 for the family. Please come, support your boosters, and become a member! They will also sell 50/50 raffle tickets at the game. Come support your Cougars!
This year, we have again purchased a license to broadcast all our home games on the NFHS Network for free! Away games may still require a subscription to the NFHS Network. Please go to NFHSNetwork.com and create a free account to watch all our games in the stadium and main gym.
