Superintendent Update
Dear Nashoba Families,
On Wednesday, January 17th, the initial draft of the NRSD budget will be presented to the Nashoba Regional School Committee. This preliminary budget will center around the anticipated costs of the educational program for the upcoming year. Subsequently, on February 7th, we will present revenue assessments to the committee, providing each town with a clear understanding of their anticipated financial contributions required to implement the educational plan.
A crucial step in the budgeting process will occur on February 27th when members of the Finance and Advisory committees convene for a joint meeting. This public session offers committee members the opportunity to delve into the budget details, posing inquiries to district officials about the proposed financial plan.
For broader community involvement, a budget hearing is scheduled for March 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Office in Bolton. This gathering provides citizens with the chance to actively engage with district officials and the school committee, expressing their thoughts and concerns regarding the proposed budget. Your participation in this dialogue is valued and encouraged.
Peace,
Kirk Downing

National History Day at Nashoba
This year marks the 50th National History Day competition, an annual competition in which students choose a significant historic topic related to a theme and dive deeply into the past by conducting extensive research through primary and secondary sources. Students present a thesis statement, evidence and conclusions through papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, or websites. Through this process, students develop skills that relate to the core Portrait of a Nashoba Graduate competencies of communication, creativity, empathy, perseverance, learner’s mindset, and culturally competent global citizenship. Nashoba Regional High School students have participated in the competition for over 15 years. This week, Nashoba Regional High School Social Studies students showcased their National History Day projects this week, highlighting their research into topics related to the theme of Turning Points in History. Here is more information about this year’s theme.
After considering what constitutes a turning point in history, students explored and then selected a topic of their choice that connects United States or World history to the theme of turning points. Students collaborated or worked independently, conducting extensive research, outlining the project, writing an annotated bibliography and producing a product to showcase their knowledge. NRHS students created interactive exhibits, featuring text, images, video, and objects. Other students created websites and wrote research papers. The wide array of topics presented by NRHS students included everything from the Manhattan Project, the Dred Scott decision, the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Equal Pay Act, the construction of Transcontinental Railroad, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, and the development of polio vaccine. The wide variety of topics and products demonstrated an impressive array of student knowledge about turning points in history and the myriad ways in which students can demonstrate what they have learned.
