Dear Parents,

MCA TESTING

Our 3rd -8th grade students are continuing the MCA tests for reading, math and science this entire month. Please read below in the parent resource section for more information. The results of the tests will be released in August.

Safety Protocols

I want to let you be aware that if there is ever a "threat" identified to students or staff, on site or on social media, but there is not an immediate risk, we still follow safety procedures to maintain the utmost safety of our staff and students.

Building Administration Protocol

o Convene the appropriate staff to evaluate the threat to determine threat credibility.

o Notify law enforcement, if appropriate.

o Conduct search of school and personal property, if needed.

o Interview the individual posing the threat.

o Develop an action plan.

o Notify district administration.

o Contact parents or legal guardians.

o Inform them of the situation, any concerns and course of action.

o Obtain permission to exchange information between agencies.

o Document any referrals, actions taken and decisions made.

o Implement recovery procedures.

Staff Protocol

o Complete a threat incident report form.

o Notify building administration and student services staff.

o Maintain confidentiality.

The annual NMFA Board Member elections will be held on May 11, 2022. There are four (4) open seats of which the four (4) current members are running: Kyle Johnson, Mike Leary, Pam Albrecht and Joe Palkowitsch.

• The elected members will start their term July 1, 2022, and at the July 20th meeting officers will be elected.
• Each parent (maximum of two per family), staff member and current Board member has one (1) vote.

If you, or someone you know, would be interested in becoming a Board member, please contact Mike Leary or Pam Albrecht.

Additional information with voting instructions will be available in early May.

It is Severe Weather Awareness Week, which means we will be having the Statewide Tornado Drill on Thursday, April 7th at 1:45 PM.

Attached is the Tornado Drill Location for each classroom. Please speak to your child about what this will look like.

During the drill students will be asked to have their heads towards the wall with hands over their heads as they sit on their needs. Below is an example to show your children for reference.

As some of you may have heard, ISD 622 had announced their new start times for a few of their schools. Since we use ISD 622 for our transportation for many of our students, we are now having to move our start times to ensure that we have transportation for our students for next school year.

ISD 622 has informed us that moving forward with the 2022-2023 school year, our start time for school is 7:30 AM and end time is 2:00 PM. We understand that this is going to be a huge change for many of our families. Those of you who started with us in 2016 may remember us having a start time this early. We kindly ask that you take the time to fill out this 3 question survey, so that we as an administration can see what our families concerns/needs are with these new times.

Buenas Tardes Familias

Como algunos de ustedes habrán escuchado, ISD 622 anunció sus nuevos horarios de inicio para algunas de sus escuelas. We wanted to set out an update about how our families can report student absences! Please see below on how as we have just added a few new ways to report!

1. Families may call into the attendance line at 651-300-6300, follow the prompts for the attendance line to leave a message.

2. Families can report absences by going to our website nmfamn.org and clicking on report an absence.

3. Families can now text your student's absence by texting attendance@nmfamn.org via your message app in your phone.

4. Families can submit absences within the JMC Family App on your smartphone. If you need to download the schools pin is 0691.

Please see either the attached PDF for a change in our parent drop-off and pick-up location. Due to the congestion in the front of the school and buses sometimes blocking the street this is an important change that needs to occur to ensure the safety of all students.

Starting Monday, March 28th, all families dropping-off and picking-up each day will use the new location, which is located on Helen Street. There will be a cone placed which will indicate where the first car can start the line each day. Students will be dismissed to that location starting at 3:45 and the door will open at 3:50.

On Friday, March 25th, your student(s) will be given their assigned number in class to bring to you. You will have 2 copies.

Drop-Off Procedures

1. Families will line up on Helen Street to drop off.

2. The door will open at 8:50.

3. Students should wait until a staff member instructs them to get out of their car.

4. Families can then turn around in the cul-de-sac.

5. The door will close at 9AM or the last car in line. At that point all students will need to be dropped off at the front door. All students being dropped off after 9:10 will need to be signed in.

Pick-Up Procedures

1. Families can begin lining up on Helen Street at 3:45. Please do not block the school driveway on Helen Street.

2. Families who are consistently parent-pick up each day will be assigned a family number. Students who are called in for parent pick up will not have an assigned number- a staff member will ask who you are picking up.

3. Students will be dismissed in the order cars are lined up. Parent pick up doors will close at 4:05PM. Parents can then turn around on Helen Street.

4. Starting at 3:40- Students will no longer be dismissed from the front office. You will be instructed to go to the parent pick up line.

• On 3/21 NMFA mask policy has been updated for all students and staff.

• Student Expectations:

  We ask that you have a conversation with your child about your expectations of masking at school and prepare your children for other families making different decisions. It is important to know that no matter the decision, please know that families will make different decisions that are different from other family decisions.

  Staff Masking:

  Staff will be making their own decisions as well. Please know that teaching in a mask has been incredibly different for the past two years. It is important that we also withhold judgment of staff deciding to continue to mask or unmask. Optional is optional and personal reasons are to be respected for all.

• As of March 14th - March 18th masks are required for all students and staff. Starting March 21st masks are optional for all students and staff at NMFA and on transportation.
  

We understand that your student(s) may be vaccinated - but classrooms may transition to distance learning due to number of cases and staffing.

April 15th - No school. Contract Holiday

April 29th - All School Bowling Field trip (Watch for permission slip)

May 20 - School Carnival

May 30 - No School Memorial Day

May 31 - Music Concert (Virtual - Watch for more info)

June 2 - Track and Field Day (Last day for students)

Week of June 20 Summer School Begins (Watch for more info)
