Great things are happening at WCS!

This week, students from WCS were invited to participate in a Unified P.E. class at MHS. Unified Sports, a division of Special Olympics, joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding. Having sports in common is just one more way that connects students, and eases the transition to high school.

Once again, students are getting the chance to see their artwork come to life through the Square 1 Art fundraiser. All students will create a picture and the Square 1 Art company will print it on different items that are for sale to families. A portion of each sale goes to the WCS Art Room. The best part of this program is that all students will get a collection of stickers displaying their artwork, regardless of whether a purchase is made. Stay tuned for more details!

Did you remember clipping box top coupons to earn money for the PTA? Those days are long gone! These days you can simply scan your grocery store receipt and the Box Tops for Education app will automatically total up your tops and apply the money to the school of your choice.

Do you have an Amazon Prime account? Your Amazon purchases can help earn money for the WCS PTA as well! If you select "Woolwich Central School PTA" as your AmazonSmile charitable organization (found in Settings) .5% of your purchases will be donated to the school at no cost to you! They just give us the money each time you purchase items that you were going to order anyway...it doesn't get any easier than that!

The WCS office has Hannaford CLYNK bags ready to go! If you would like to donate your returnable cans & bottles to the 8th-grade class, please pick up a few bags! Full bags can be returned to any participating Hannaford, and the 8th grade class will get the cash!

• Earlier this year the RSU1 Nutrition Department met to go over the menu offerings for each school and school Head Chefs were invited to suggest some new recipes! This month offers us such new meals as: "Chicken Parmesan Lasagna", "Hot Honey, Cheddar Chicken Croissants" and the wildly popular, "Korean Beef & Rice Bowl." Meals are still free for all RSU1 students and there has never been a better time to try something new! CLICK HERE for the January Menus.

• Our middle school is taking part in the 2023 Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey. This survey is sponsored by Maine Department of Health and Human Services and Maine Department of Education. The survey will ask about the health behaviors of 6th-8th grade students. Middle School Students will take the survey during their guidance or health class the week of January 23rd. Parents of MS students, please check your email for more information and call the office if you have any questions.
