Let's start with common questions I get this time of year
THIS MONTH---
It is a good practice to make sure students sign out of accounts and apps before turning them in. But devices will be wiped in preparation for the fall.
** Do you have 8th graders who want to save their drive files? Share this PDF with them.
TEACHER STUFF--- if you are staying where you are, cool. If you are someone who is moving rooms/schools/retiring etc.... this is for you. Your principal will give you more specific instructions based on what has been shared with them, but two really important things stay put: CLASSROOM PHONES AND PRINTERS DO NOT MOVE. It doesn't matter how much you love them, they stay where they are. Seriously. Trust me. Leave the phone and printer where it is. Thank you.
THIS SUMMER---
Quick answer--- I can't think of anything that is available in the school year that won't continue into July. Except devices. They are turning devices and hotspots in. So, don't assume access. But accounts and sites? Those will all be good through July.
At some point in August, we need to pause access to allow for new year preparations. But let's be real... the student who is still working in August isn't probably the same one who needs the intervention. :) Everyone deserves a few weeks off.
NEXT YEAR---
There is no question the past 15 months have caused a --- let's say --- an accelerated pace of technology integration and river of resource availability (I'm talking about companies that have said hey, teachers, use our stuff for free!)
So, here is what I know for next year---
DEVICES-- we are sticking with TK-2 iPads and 3-8 Chromebooks. All grades will be 1:1 and devices will be checked out to students, not assigned to teachers in carts. All grades will be able to send devices home. Hot spots will be checked out as needed.
APPS/SITES-- there is certainly more to come here, but in addition to technology that supports adopted curriculum, I am trying really hard to create an updated list of what you will have access to. We are being intentional about a couple things---
(1) it has to have an appropriate/legal privacy policy
(2) things ed services and the tech department can support through training and account access.
Here is a short (non-exhaustive) list of things you can count on:
Clever, Google, Seesaw, Classroom, Learning A-Z, Sora digital library, Happy Numbers and Khan Academy, Newsela, Nearpod, Talking Points, Accelerated Reader, and all adopted curriculum.
I am working to update the webpage in the Technology Department section that will help clarify. I hope this information is helpful.

Cyber Safety Summer 2021 (aka digital citizenship month)
Woah friends, in all the delights and wonders 2020-21 brought, we neglected our traditional Digital Citizenship Launch in September. So, we need to fix that! We have an adjusted plan for this year.
STEP 1--- Liz shares the Nearpod lessons and resources in the tech news letter (check!)
STEP 2--- An email is sent to every student by grade level sharing the join code so parents can walk through the lesson (in English OR IN SPANISH) with their child.
STEP 3-- students hear about digital citizenship from their teacher or their family and learn something new!
So, let me wrap up step 1---
On the digital citizenship page (click the button below) there are:
- self paced codes for each grade level in english and in spanish and
- videos to show how to use Nearpod on iPad or Chromebook (thank you Jennifer Tapia for creating to awesome Spanish videos) Look on the top left of the webpage. Links will also be included in the student email.
Nearpod has the Common Sense Media lessons all ready to go. You can
- add this to your asynchronous assignment this week, or
- go through the lesson with your students
Handle this in whatever way makes sense to your students and situation. Older students may check their email, younger students may not, so please share the info with them.
Note: students don't sign into Nearpod, but when the lesson starts, it asks for their name (The videos explain this, please watch if you aren't sure)

Know Before (knowbe4.com)
Our final 2020-21 module is here, then we will take the summer off and pick up again in September. Thanks for being vigilant!
If you haven't signed in to complete your learning, go for it! You can always sign into knowbe4.com (there is an orange Account Login button in the top right) with your work email and password you created. That will take you to your dashboard and you can make sure everything is completed. Need to see the video to show you what it looks like? Here you go!

Liz on the Loose site visits
Here's the plan for the rest of this week:
Tues 6/8 @Haycox 12:30 in the quad
Wed 6/9 @Williams 12:30 in the reading garden
Thurs 6/10 @Parkview 12:15 in the quad
Look at the appointment calendar, there are site appointments and virtual. I'd love to chat with you!
Lunch with Liz
This past Friday, we talked about GMail and GCalendar. Thanks to those who dropped in and learned some quick tips. Then, we talked a little about Jamboard and how to make background templates. C
This Friday, the last Lunch with Liz, we will be talking specifically about how to organize your Google Drive. I get this question quite often. Or maybe it is more like a confession that your drive is a mess. It's fine. I have a few tips to help you, and that you can share with students, too. I hope you will drop in if this interests you. And watch for the slides after the meeting.

SlidesMania templates
And she has two new templates that look like they might be just what your day needs! One for creating awards, and another with a beach feel. EVERY DAY in June you should do something with this template.
Just to keep the eduprotocol flavor, I dare you to use the summer theme for thin slides and let students create a slide responding to the word ADVENTURE. Or whatever-- choose your prompt. Maybe a Brain Pop video about beach safety. Is there one? There totally is!
Slides templates are a good way to infuse some fun into learning. That beach one even has a morning meeting slide. Try starting your day with a focusing thought and some "here's what we are learning today" bullet points. Why not? I bet a lot of you already do.
A few friendly reminders
Account automation occurs overnight after their first day on the roster.
That means, day 1, a student's account won't work. Day 2 will be the first day it will be activated.
If an account doesn't work on Day 2, put in a tech support ticket.
Remove students who aren't on your roster anymore
TK-2--- go to the wrench menu in Seesaw and remove past students. If you are H@H and have a custom class set up, put in a ticket. Otherwise, I think you can do it yourself.
3-8--- go to the people tab of your Google Classroom and click the 3 dots by their name to remove past students.
Shut down those devices
Have your students restart their devices once a week or so for best performance.
Me? I might say on Friday "Let's give our devices the weekend off. Shut them all the way down. We will start them up again on Monday, but everyone/thing deserves a break after a week of hard work!"

Spam and Phishing
If you get an annoying email feel free to click the SPAM button in gmail.
It might even be something you want--- I send all my Lakeshore emails to spam because I don't need to see them all the time. But if I'm in Lakeshore--- I go to my spam folder and search Lakeshore to see if there is a coupon I want.
Know why that works? The spam button sends it to the spam folder and deletes it when it is 30 days old. It's not like I need to know the sale from 2019 or something...
But if you get an email that you think is phishing (you should be learning the red flags in the KnowBe4 modules) then click the Phish Alert Button. Professional programs will scan it, and our tech department will check it out, too. If you aren't sure? Click that hook and it will be removed from your inbox and reported to us automatically! If it is clean, it will get sent back to you.
If your phish hook doesn't seem to be there or work correctly, put in a tech ticket and tell us what is wrong.
COAST is for learning (and prizes)!
COAST is for learning!
It's there for you, anytime!
Securly, Google Classroom, curated pedagogy resources... check it out!
There's a game for teachers and a game for paraprofessionals.
