Barber Bulletin News
Parents,
We are fortunate at Pontiac to have many outstanding parent organizations that support our school.
This evening our school PTO kicks off their year with our first PTO meeting. I hope you will consider joining us to learn more about our school Parent Teacher Organization, as well as goals for our school. PTO meets once a month in our school media center. Please consider attending this evening at 6:30pm!
PTO will soon kick off the cookie dough fundraiser. This fundraiser is a great way to help our school raise funds for student projects. More information will be coming to you about this fundraiser. If you would like to support PTO through volunteering, there are many opportunities to do so. Please contact our PTO Board at pontiacpto@gmail.com.
Our School Improvement Council meets once a month at 7:45am at Pontiac. We welcome new members. Our first meeting will be held on Thursday, September 21. Our School Improvement Council looks closely at issues that are relevant to our school. This year we will focus on our new Strategic Plan. It is our vision that our school Strategic Plan will mimic that of the district. We will also become more aware of district initiatives and ways that we, as parents, can support our district and our schools. Thank you for considering being a part of this important organization.
As always, to each of you, thank you for your continued support at Pontiac Elementary.
Student Leaders
Each new school year brings opportunities for academic growth and growth in all areas of development. Although children must be knowledgeable when they graduate, they must also be healthy, engaged, responsible, and caring people. One of the best ways to help your child realize his or her worth and leadership potential is to provide an opportunity to lead. Most Leader in Me Schools offer student leadership roles as a way to teach:
Responsibility.
Leadership.
Contribution.
Have a conversation with your child about leadership roles at home. To begin:
1. Talk with your child about the leadership role he or she might be interested in.
2. Discuss why he or she is interested in the role. Ask what leadership qualities your child has that will help.
3. Together, discuss, write, and sign the paper detailing the leadership behavior and expectations of the role.
The deadline for the first round of applications is September 8th. Students will be notified about their roles in the next few days. Give your child a week or so to adjust and then discuss how it’s going. This may open a conversation on how to handle things that are too easy or too difficult. Express appreciation and celebrate success!
New Lost and Found Area
We are excited about our new Lost and Found area this year! It is located in the bus circle atrium, where ASAP students are picked up in the afternoons. We have a wonderful team of student leaders who are ready to accept the challenge of reuniting students with lost items. Please help them help you! Be sure to write your child's first and last name on any jackets, hats, lunchboxes. bookbags, etc. that are brought to school. If it's important to you, please label it! We encourage parents as well as students to check the Lost and Found area periodically to make sure there are no items belonging to you. At the end of each semester, we will donate all unclaimed items to those in need.
Also, any donations of plastic hangers would be welcomed! Just drop them off in the basket located in the Lost and Found area.
Thank You!
