PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello Bobcat Families,
This week we had our students take two MAP Growth tests on Wednesday and Thursday. Shout out to you for making sure they were prepared with their Chromebooks charged. Big shout Out to our students and teachers as well for continuing to represent good Bobcat character traits through their hard work in and out of class. Our bobcat Football team had their first game of the season representing Bedichek Pride on and off of the the football field. Looking forward to seeing more achievements throughout the year.
I look forward to meeting with you for our Monthly Parent Coffee in our library on Thursday, September 14th at 10 am. Come and meet other parents to discuss future workshops and events. Let's learn and work together to make this year a success for you as a parent and your child.
Students' attendance is of utmost importance in ensuring student success. Please reach out to the attendance office if your child is unable to attend school. In addition, remember all students are expected to be in Bedichek standardized dress code. Please see the website for more information.
We are still looking for parents for our PTA board. Please reach out to Ms. Martinez our Parent Support; if you are interested in being part of PTA as member or be part of the PTA board. We meet once a month shortly after school to discuss fun events for our campus.
Thank you for all of your support.

New State Mandates Regarding School Safety and Discipline
1. Last spring, the Texas Legislature passed a new law, HB 3, requiring all Texas school districts to have at least one armed security officer at every campus during school hours.
Austin ISD is NOT considering arming teachers or other district employees outside of Austin ISD Police Department to comply with the law.
We are planning to hire more than 70 new SRO’s to cover all 78 elementary campuses, plus associated support staff, to meet the new requirements.
The board is required to approve the required number of SROs per campus. They are anticipated to adopt this plan at their August 31 voting meeting.
2. A new state law, HB 114, mandates that ALL e-cigarettes (THC and Tobacco) are prohibited at or near public schools and school events.
House Bill 114 requires a student to be placed in the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP) if the student possesses, uses, is under the influence of, sells, gives, or delivers marijuana, THC, or an e-cigarette while on campus, within 300 feet of school property, or at a school-related event.
Under Austin ISD guidelines, this is a 20-day DAEP placement.
3. To further our efforts to protect students from firearms, and as a courtesy to our families, Austin ISD is informing families of the legal obligations to protect minors from negligent gun storage.
Texas State Law 46.13 indicates that a person commits an offense if a child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm and the person with criminal negligence: failed to secure the firearm; or left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access.
Campus Safety Measures
