Track & Field Preseason Info
Track and Field season won’t officially start until February 26th, but we’ve started preseason training. Workouts are on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:00 in the weight room.
These preseason practices will focus on building a strong core and will be valuable regardless of the specific races/events an athlete will specialize in during the season. On dry days we’ll spend at least part of our time running outside, but because of the rain and cold, most of our time will be spent in the weight room.
T&F preseason workouts are open to all athletes regardless of what sports they play. They’re especially valuable for athletes who are considering joining the T&F team but want to get a feel for the community.

Bus transportation for Middle School students
STUDENTS THAT DO NOT RIDE THE BUS TO AND FROM SCHOOL
Due to limited bus capacity, students that do not ride the bus to and from school will need to be dropped off at the Middle School, Woodard Campus and picked up at the campus where their student ends the day. All Middle School students begin the day at the Middle School and need to be dropped off at this location by their parents/guardians.
In the afternoon Middle School students have their enrichment classes at different school campuses. If your students are not regular bus riders to and from school, they will need to be picked up at the location where they end the day. Students in Coding or Art classes will end the day at the Middle School, Woodard Campus and need to be picked up at the new Middle School. Students in Rock Band or Theater will end the day at CAPS and need to be picked up at CAPS. Students that are in Band, Strings or Choir will end the day at the Main Campus and need to be picked up from the Main Campus in the fire lane of the old Middle School.
STUDENTS THAT RIDE THE BUS TO AND FROM SCHOOL
There have been no changes to the regular bus routes. Students will ride their regular buses which they have been riding all year. Students that ride the bus to school will be transported to the Middle School, Woodard Campus each day.
In the morning, students that live in Corbett and ride an In-District bus will be brought to the Main Campus and transferred onto a shuttle bus (Mickey Mouse) and shuttled down to the Middle School, Woodard Campus. Only students that are assigned to District routes will be allowed to ride the shuttle bus in the morning due to bus capacity for the bus. There will be staff helping with this transition the first few days of this new shuttle service.
In the morning, Middle School students that ride the Out-of-District bus will be dropped directly at the new Middle School, Woodard Campus. The Out-of District bus service is a courtesy service the District provides and currently is full with a waitlist for Middle School students.
Students that ride the bus home from school will be shuttled to the Main Campus to load their assigned bus. This includes both In-District and Out-of-District bus riders for the afternoon. Only students that ride regular route buses to and from school will be allowed to shuttle between campuses due to capacity limits on the shuttle bus. Students not on the driver's route sheets will not be allowed to ride the bus. If you need to pick up your Middle School bus rider on a certain day, that should be done at the campus where they are located at the end of the day.
EXCEPTION for Middle School student athletes to use the shuttle bus during the current sport season. If you have a Middle School student that is participating in a school sponsored sport at the Main Campus immediately after school, your student may be placed on the shuttle bus list by emailing Carrie Evans at cevans@corbett.k12.or.us. You will need to email each season in order for your student to be placed on the shuttle. If your student is not on the shuttle bus list, they will not be able to ride the shuttle.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at twilliams@corbett.k12.or.us or (503)261-4265 or Carrie Evans, Transportation Coordinator at cevans@corbett.k12.or.us or (503) 261-4249 with any questions.

From the Health Room
Your health team at Corbett has been busy with many tasks to make sure the students and staff are staying healthy.
One important task is to check on immunization records and help families know which immunizations are needed. February 21, 2024 is immunization exclusion day in Oregon. “All children who are not up-to-date on their immunizations will be excluded from school” until their immunizations are up to date (multco.us. 2024).
Cheryl Reams, School Health Assistant, is happy to answer any questions regarding your specific student’s immunizations that are not current. You can reach her at: 503-261-4258.
Multnomah County Student Health Centers are one resource for immunizations. Your student will not be charged for services. They take any insurance and are happy to assist if your student does not currently have insurance. Immunizations are one of the many services they provide.
Reynolds High School Student Health Center: 503-988-3340, David Douglas High School Student Health Center: 503-988-3554 and Centennial High School Student Health Center: 503-988- 5488 the three closest health centers to the Corbett area.
Wishing all our students, staff, and families a strong, resilient, and healthy 2024!

Ciara O'Neal
Interview by Michelle Carter Smith
Ciara O'Neal is a General Education Assistant at Corbett Middle School and her work day consists of:
Supervising students in the commons before school
Supervising students on their lunch and break afterward
Academic intervention in the areas of math, reading, and writing
Facilitating a small group for math.
Born in Clackamas, Oregon, Ciara has spent her entire life in the Northwest. She has a brother named Carlo and has three half-siblings and three step-siblings. For the first six years of her life, Ciara lived in Gresham with her family and then moved to Vancouver, Wash. where she eventually graduated from high school. Describing herself as being very social and outgoing as a child, Ciara also played volleyball from 7th to 12th grade at school and did track all through middle school. Ciara has always loved dance and was involved in an out-of-school dance group throughout her childhood. After graduating high school, Ciara attended Mt. Hood Community College to get her associate's degree and then transferred to Eastern Oregon Univ. to earn her bachelor's degree. She majored in liberal arts and minored in psychology and health studies. The hope was to one day become a PE teacher. During Ciara's time in community college, she met her husband Jack. They dated for two years and then married in January 2009. Their daughter Madeline was born in 2009 and her sister Savannah was born in 2012. Their brother Jack was born in 2016. All three kids are currently attending the Corbett schools. When Ciara graduated college with her four-year degree, her second daughter, Savannah was just two months old! (At this time, her husband Jack was also attending college and working at UPS in the evenings.) After graduation, Ciara began working at a local preschool during the day and was coaching recreational gymnastics in the evening. Her husband Jack was deployed twice, both in 2008-2009 and also in 2012-2013. The deployments put his graduation from college on hold until 2015. Jack graduated from Portland State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He got a job with Intel and he and Ciara decided to purchase their first home and expand their family! They moved to Troutdale and Ciara began working full-time at Rigert Elite Gymnastics. After working there since 2014, it came to an end in March 2020 when Covid hit. Ciara became a certified personal trainer and began homeschooling her kids as well as some of the neighbor kids. In June 2021, she began also working at a local preschool doing summer camps. It was during this time that a friend mentioned to her that CAPS in Corbett was hiring. Ciara applied and interviewed, only to be surprisingly hired at the Corbett Middle School! A new post-Covid position was created and Ciara stepped in as the new General Education Assistant in August 2021. She is enjoying her work and says she loves that each day is very different from the next. She appreciates the relationships she has with both the staff and the students. In January 2024, the middle schoolers will move to their new campus on Woodard Road. Ciara is looking forward to the new chapter for everyone, giving the middle schoolers a place to call their own. Both of Ciara's daughters play both club and school volleyball. Jack does karate and is going into his fourth year of the sport. As a family, they enjoy playing board games and going on family vacations. This summer they will be returning to Hawaii for a summer trip. The family has an eight-year-old "mutt" named Carter who they have had since he was five months old. Their cat, Mr. Muggles is 16 years old and has been with them since Ciara and Jack began dating. The family is looking to one day move into the Corbett community that they all love so much.
