Chamberlin's Chat
We have started our "Shoot for the Stars" year off strong! We are thrilled that the last five days have been spent building relationships between staff and students as well as between students, and we are already diving into lots of learning!
If you don't already, please consider following our school Twitter page at @NashuaES for frequent updates about the learning and fun that happens here daily!
Please know that while we have experienced situations this week that have warranted the quarantine of some of our Nashua Stars, we are doing everything possible to keep all students here at school. Our best mitigation strategies at this point are distance and masks, and often a quarantine can be avoided when masks are properly worn. Please help us keep your child at school by encouraging them to wear their mask properly while they are on the bus and in the building.
I would like to personally invite you to attend our Parent Orientation Night on Thursday. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain some insight into what your child will be learning this year, and to connect with your student's teacher about how to best support your Star in their school experience this year! The flyer below provides additional details. I look forward to seeing you there!
Ms. Chamberlin
Mark your calendar for Nashua's Parent Orientation Night! It is recommended that only parents and guardians attend, please.
New Option for Birthday Celebrations
You may have noticed the following in the school handbook:
We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday. However, for several reasons, including increased food allergies, disrupting the instructional day, and student equity, students are not allowed to bring treats from home for birthdays, going away parties, or other personal events.
This safety measure is per District guidelines and leaves no room for flexibility. The Food and Nutrition Department is offering parents the option of ordering birthday treats for their children from the school cafeteria. Parents may select from a variety of kid-friendly treats (view the school Website). Order your birthday treats two weeks in advance of your child’s birthday from your cafeteria manager and the treats will be enjoyed during lunch time in the cafeteria on the day of the party. The office will announce each student’s birthday during morning announcements and give them a birthday pencil. Parents should not send treats or trinkets for birthdays.
To clarify, these orders are submitted through our café. Please go to the following link: https://www.nkcschools.org/cms/lib/MO49000025/Centricity/Domain/23/Birthday%20Treats%2021-22.pdf and submit your order at least 2 weeks in advance. All students, whether they order a birthday treat for their class or not, will have the option of putting a few small birthday decorations on their class table in the cafeteria on their birthday, so that all students may choose to have their birthday recognized by their peers, if they wish. If you have any questions about this, please call the front office at 321-5160.
Car Rider Line Procedure
In addition, if you are lining up early for dismissal, we ask that you not block driveways and mailboxes along 114th street or McGee street.
Thank you so much for your cooperation, as this helps for a smoother dismissal for everyone.
Shooting for the Stars Parent Resources
Our Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Hoke, has put together a list of Student Library Resources, if you would like to explore and encourage your child to do the same.
