Parent Teacher Conferences In October and November
Parent-Teacher conferences are an excellent way to gain a better understanding of your child’s educational progress and achievements, learn more about the innovative curriculum our teachers deliver in the classroom and support your child’s educational success. Parent-Teacher conferences are being scheduled this month and in November. Although the conferences are optional, we encourage you to schedule one with your child’s teacher. For more information about the timing of the conference and how to schedule, please visit your school’s website or contact your Principal’s office.
Professional Development for Our Teachers
On October 13, all teachers attended a half day Professional Development (PD) session to learn more about how to foster academic, cognitive, social and emotional growth by developing strong relationships with students, families and peers.
Following this session, teachers had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions of their choosing to drill down into components of the LASD Experience. The LASD Experience comprises five key methods and strategies our teachers use to ensure our students excel.
The breakout sessions and Professional Development were aligned with the LASD Board Policy 0415(a), which explains the Board's commitment to educational equity. At PD Day, our teachers focused on ways to distinguish and avoid bias to help eliminate practices that negatively influence student learning, perpetuate achievement gaps and impede equal access to opportunities for all students. They also learned about research-based, culturally responsive instructional practices, as well as how to teach equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-bias to the students in their classrooms in an age-appropriate manner.
We are thrilled to model lifelong learning for our students and continuously improve our teaching practices here in the Los Altos School District.
