Caribbean American Heritage Month: which recognizes the history and culture of Caribbean Americans in the United States.
LGBT Pride Month: The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
June 19: Juneteenth: Juneteenth took place on June 19, 1865, when all slaves in Texas were liberated. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued at the start of 1863, the news didn’t reach all states or slaves until over two years later. Today, 47 states and D.C. recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday or observance. Create more inclusion and belonging with racial sensitivity training.
From Interim Superintendent Dan Wold
Holly Elvins-Dearixon - 35 years, 8 months
Holly Dearixon has been with Corbett School District for the past 35 years. Many in our community knew her as Miss Elvins when she first started her career at Corbett. She began her teaching career as a fifth grade teacher and many of her students remember her as a caring and supportive teacher that encouraged them to have high expectations and to strive for excellence.
After several years as a classroom teacher, Mrs. Dearixon moved into her new role as our district’s curriculum specialist. In this position, she oversaw adoptions of our English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and many other subjects. She was able to bring our K-12 staff together to pursue a common vision for our students. In addition, Mrs. Dearixon supervised K-12 state assessments and many reports to the Oregon Department of Education.
Mrs. Dearixon will be greatly missed in our district, but she will now have more time for running, hiking, working in her garden, and traveling with her family.
Kristin Wold - 31 years, 8 months
After 31 years of teaching in the Corbett School District, Kristin Wold will be retiring.
Over the years, Mrs. Wold has taught in K-5 classrooms. Her passion for learning is contagious. To her students and fellow educators she brings excitement for geology, geography, wildflowers, and most importantly, reading to her students.
If you or one of your family members were fortunate enough to experience her as their teacher you know just how much we will all miss her. Her dedication to the students and families of our school district is outstanding. She is a member of our school community that we will miss daily. Not to worry…Kristin Wold can not possibly stay away from us too long! She has already promised to come and help out with the beginning of school next year!
Connie Renner - 16 years, 8 months
Connie Renner has been with the Corbett School District for over 16 years. In that time, she has made a huge impact on the lives of many of our students. Mrs. Renner has served our school community as a para support for small groups of students and students that need one to one support. Her generosity and kind heart makes her extra special to the students that she serves. Mrs. Renner goes above and beyond with developing and adapting lessons for her students. She sees the needs of those around her and is dedicated to our school community beyond measure.
Mrs. Renner is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever worked with. She has an incredible gift of bringing peace into hard situations. The patience she shows towards kids who are struggling is beautiful. I’ve watched her work through many intense situations. Her wheels are turning constantly as she tries to figure out the puzzle of each little one she works with, but always in such a calm way. Mrs. Renner sees so much potential in each child and works every moment to bring out the best in them. Each day I work with Mrs. Renner, she teaches me how to teach children and it has been a tremendous honor to work with her. –Amy Lewis

From the Health Room:
This school year has felt more normal having the students here full-time. The students have shown great resilience, cooperation, and patience as we navigate a most unusual school year. We hear singing, talking, and laughter as the students enjoy learning together and enjoy watching children just be children…full of life, curiosity, and wonder.
The Health Team would like to say a big “Thank-you” to the all the parents/guardians who have been so careful to keep sick students home and who have good-naturedly understood as we implemented various state mandates during this school year. Your commitment to your school and community make a big difference!
A few reminders: Students going into the 7th grade will need their Tdap booster or immunization exemption for next school year. ***
Also, if your student is planning to be a part of the summer enrichment program, please let the school nurse know about any changes in medication or new healthcare provider orders. We want your students to have an incredible experience this summer.
Thank you for working together to keep your child safe and healthy.
