Community Resources and Offerings
Hello Educators,
Join PEI for a book study designed for K-12 teachers interested in reading and discussing the book "Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants" by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer. Beginning February 21st, each monthly book study session will include pre-reading exercises on Google classroom and guided community discussion time via Zoom. Teachers will reflect on the applications of the book to their teaching practice and develop their own lessons and activities they can bring to life in the classroom.

Participants can expect to meet new people while learning communication, self-reflection, and listening skills that they can use at home, work, and school. They will have opportunities to share and learn traditional stories and participate in hands-on activities designed through a Native lens.

We at The Playwrights Realm are excited to share that this coming Monday, January 29th, we will start accepting submissions for a paid developmental program for Native American artists to hone their playwriting craft, and we hope you might be able to help us!
We are a theatre organization based in New York City that nurtures playwrights at the earliest stages of their careers, and for this program, we will fly selected Native artists out to NYC for a professional reading of their play. We are looking for storytellers; even if they don’t call themselves a “playwright”, even if they are a small group of artists, even if the stories are told using mixed media.
We are casting a wide net, and we would be incredibly grateful for your help in spreading the word with your community and/or individuals who you think may be interested – or maybe you are interested!
I’m including the following things to make it as easy as possible to share this opportunity:
- Attached is a flier with details about the program
- Here is a link to the page on our website with all details
It would especially be amazing if you were able print out the flier for display on any bulletin boards or community spaces you have access to!
If you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need.
Thank you for being an integral part of our search process.
Warmly,
Joshwald Martínez-Peralta
