THE DYSLEXIA GRANT WINNER IS ..... SAISD!
Texas Education Agency has awarded SAISD's Dyslexia Department funds from the Dyslexia Grant Award Program. We are excited to be one of the districts to be awarded monies.
House Bill 1525, passed by the 87th Texas Legislature, established a grant program providing training in dyslexia for teachers and staff. The grant program aims to increase an LEA’s, Local Education Agency, capacity to appropriately serve students with dyslexia and related disorders by providing:
- high-quality training to classroom teachers and administrators in meeting the needs of students with dyslexia and/or
- training to intervention staff resulting in appropriate credentialing related to dyslexia.
The grant will afford SAISD the opportunity to expand SAISD's dyslexia program by providing specialized training to dyslexia specialists, special education teachers, and staff.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Did you say Pasghetti? is an engaging picture book about a young boy, Danny, and his ups and downs with Dyslexia as told by his best friend and dog, Dusty!
The story, which is told by Danny's best friend, Dusty the dog, gives kids a fun yet realistic look at some of the struggles associated with dyslexia and other learning challenges - like frustration, low self-esteem, and negativity. Dusty provides quiet, consistent support, which helps Danny build a positive mindset and the confidence to overcome his learning challenges. He realizes that everyone learns differently and that's okay. Everybody has a special need of some kind.
